I think some of you guys are exagerating and over-applying the issue.
He didn't say the MF's computers were better specifically. He just said that the MF used better navigation to cut the distance down and that's what made the ship seem so much faster than the others.
Although, if you ask me, in the later two movies the ship seems pretty fast in regular space to me. In the first movie the tie fighters appear to be quite a bit faster than the MF when it is fleeing the Death Star.
Is it possible that the MF's lower mass might let it cut corners in hyper space that the large Imperial ships couldn't?

It seems that someone realized the error and this resulted the changes in the script and in the novelisation, however GL forgot about it or found it unimportant so the movie did not include that reaction. But it is just speculation, of course.

Actually, GL did specifically mention MF's navicomputers:
So that the fastest way between two points is a straight line and it's up to your navi-computer and your navigations skills. That's what makes you go fast and in the particular case of the Millennium Falcon, the Millennium Falcon has an extremely sophisticated navigation system
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice that it was in comparison with an ISD you discussed.

Bolded and underlined: just to point out that the MF's navicomputer is nothing without good astrogation. Perhaps it takes a significant amount of time to safely calculate a hyperspace jump, and Solo simply happens to be good at programming the computers quickly enough to give him and Chewie an edge in escape maneuvres.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the conversation, but I thought that a Parsec was an actual scientific measure of distance.
Dictionary.com wrote:par·sec Pronunciation Key (pärsk) n.
A unit of astronomical length based on the distance from Earth at which stellar parallax is one second of arc and equal to 3.258 light-years, 3.086 × 1013 kilometers, or 1.918 × 1013 miles.
But it's not a measure of time. Han used it in a context where one would normally use a measure of time, not distance.

meh. I like the EU explanation, because it implies speed as a necessary component to the feat (He had such velocity not be be sucked into the maw) and by cutting so close to the maw he shaved some distance off his course and the time warp/spatial distortion effects of the maw.

You might want to rethink that again. The EU explaination is a sublight transit.

The problem with Lucas’ explanation, of course, is that if Han was bragging about his navigational abilities with his “under 12 parsecs” comment then it’s no longer an appropriate response to the question that he was asked. No one asked Han if he was a good navigator/pilot. He was asked if the Millennium Falcon was a fast ship.
I suppose it could make sense as a response if all ships go the same speed in hyperspace and navigational ability is the sole determining factor in a ship’s transit time, but then it seems unlikely that Kanobi would have asked “is she a fast ship?” in the first place. He would probably have just asked “are you a good navigator?” or something similar.

Look at Ben's reaction in the movie. It's there. He doesn't look impressed at all by Han's statement about "12 parsecs." If anything, he look skeptical.
Its dumb to have a friggin' smuggler use parsecs in response to a "fast" question.

I never bought the explanation that Han (as opposed to the script writers) was supposed to be making himself look foolish by using a unit of length as a unit of time. Even if he was trying to impress them with “obvious misinformation,” it wouldn’t make sense for him to substitute a unit of length for a unit of time like that. Saying “my car is so fast that it can get me to Chicago in under two hours” might be an attempt to impress someone with misinformation. Saying “my car is so fast that it can get me to Chicago in under two miles” just makes it look like I don’t speak English very well.

I'm inclined to agree with Strav; from this angle a better explanation is that the Falcon has a hot-rodded, riced-up hyperdrive running at pour efficiency or unsafe by Imperial warship standards and that's how it gets its speed. Much more plausible than having better computers than an ISD, IMHO.

Damnit I lost my post! So I once again invoke shananigans!
I need to check out the commentary from RotJ to see if there's a mention about this line. Where Han is telling Lando to take the Falcon.
Han exclaims 'Take her. You'll need all the help you can get. She's the fastest ship in the fleet.'
What the FUCK does your ability to travel through hyperspace mean to this line. They knew they were going down the Death Star II's throat so to speak. This to me, (once again) refers to the speed of the Falcon in 'sublight' conditions. Here's Lucas going on about parsecs. Fuck that.
Lucas just needs to come out and say it. 'I really had no idea what i was talking about when I had them say parsecs. Either way, the Falcon is a fast ship. Suck it down Trekkies.' and let it be done.
