Black and white is also easier to work with than NTSC. They call it "Never The Same Color" for a reason. :)
My favorite is the SECAM one, though. Since only the French use it, and the French just have to be different, the joke acronym for SECAM is "System Essentially Contrary to All Methods."

Well if there isn't a funny one then make one up? You know it could even be complementary.Durandal wrote:I don't know of a joke one. Everyone likes PAL.
The real acronym for PAL is Phased Alternating Lines.

Goddamn but do I hate NTSC. I understand the reasons behind it and they were sound reasons, but it should have been replaced years ago by HDTV. I want my 1080i football games and 720p movies!Durandal wrote:Black and white is also easier to work with than NTSC. They call it "Never The Same Color" for a reason.

I don't want interlacing. I want it gone. Period. No more interlacing. We don't need it anymore. I want everything to be progressive, the way it should be, that way TV's and computers can communicate with each other seamlessly.
That, and killing interlacing makes DVD's easier to rip. :)

Think of the poor broadcasters. And the people who have to upgrade their now-worthless televisions.phongn wrote:Goddamn but do I hate NTSC. AMEN! My parents got an HDTV bigscreen TV a few months ago and for once I'd love to see something look sharp on it! Normal broadcasts look like shit on it! (yet DVDs look flawless!)phongn wrote:Well, the TV isn't entirely worthless - you can buy a converter (I know, it's an added expense) to convert the SDTV signal into NTSC. I was in an electronics store one time, and there was an HDTV showing a Cubs game that was being broadcast in HDTV (I didn't catch which standard it was using, probably 1080i), but it looked positively gorgeous.

I was in a store with this 65" monitor hooked up to a Sony HDCAM deck, showing some NASA liftoff footage. Well, large screens are cool and all, but their picture is still NTSC - still nice. HDTV, on the other hand (especially from an uncompressed source)...CmdrWilkens wrote:I don't think there are too many 65" monitors out there which aren't droolworthy.phongn wrote:I was in a store with this 65" monitor hooked up to a Sony HDCAM deck, showing some NASA liftoff footage.
