small DVD changes with maybe technical impact

Post by Tribun »

I've noticed some things in the DVD release of Star Wars, that could be important in regard to technical debate.

ANH:

The fire sequence of the Death Star was altered. Now the beams shoot at the point where they meet one for one, and not in pairs. That the first single beam just stops just at the right place, is interesting if you consider weapons technology.

Changes were made to the explosion of the first Death Star:

-After split seconds, the Explosion and the rings become totally white.
I have no idea why they did that, but should't it make it the explosion and the debris much hotter?
-There is a blue shimmer surroundig the explosion.
I first thought it to be a bluescreen error, until I saw, that it wasn't there before, and saw the same blue shimmering in ROTJ (on the reactor and split seconds before DS2 explodes, on the DS2). Maybe it is a effect from the hypermatter?

ROTJ:

The green superlaserbeam is surrounded by yellow light while hitting the Calamari cruiser. Is that simply a error, or could it be important?

I'm curios, if that is important.

Could be because it's a low-powered shot?

That reminds me of the Quarren Crab Cannon in the CW animated series, it fired yellow beams at a fleet of Acclamators. Maybe it does signify a weaker type of superlaser.

On my DVD, the DS II attacking one of the Mon Cals with its superlaser makes the explosion look red... and its sorta slower then before. Like the shields were holding the DS blast off.

Well that makes sense; no need to waste a full power shot on a starship. Just have to spend enough energy to overcome the shields, after all.
