Why was Palpatine not notified..

Post by Jean Paul »

...when the DSII shield was taken out?

He was up in the throne room about to fry Luke, but had not actually started yet, when the sheild went down.

You'd think that the control room/bridge/whatever of the deathstar would have notified the most important man in the empire. "Sorry to disturb you your majesty but the shield is down. One shot into your tower and you're done for." (Which also begs the question of why no fighter or capital ship blasted the Emperor's tower once the shield went down)

The Rebel capital ships were mainly focused on avoiding the Death Star's Laser and fighting the Imperial fleet, while the fighters have to focus on hitting the Core. Plus, we saw them take enormous surface fire as they approached the entrance to the Core- most likely, Palpatine's tower has extra protection and probably even its own back up shields.

As for the lack of message, it's probably because Palpatine ordered everyone but Luke and Vader out of the room, and interrupting a powerful, easily angered Sith Lord(especially when they had Vader for example of what happened with failure) is probably the end of your career.

Even without the shield, chances of the rebel fleet to win in a straight-up assault on the DSII was nil. The Emperor's tower was particularly heavily defended.

As I recall, he ordered Jejerrod to destroy the moon if the shield was taken down before it went down. Hence, when the rebels DID lower the shield, all Jejerrod had to do was follow orders.

That's stupid, the DS was so close to Endor that if it had fired a full bore planet-busting shot, it would have been caught in the blast and destroyed itself.

It should be noted that various sources indicated Palpatine's tower had it's own, operational shield and was designed to break off in an emergency.

Overconfidence, however, is the biggest thing here.

The Death Star crew was getting the fuck out. Screw the Emporer, if he didn't kill you for the interruption, he'd kill you for the failure of the ground forces to protect the generator.

Perhaps Palpatine's officers only dared to tell him the good news. Perhaps the conversation went something like this:

Officer #1 "You go tell him."
Officer #2 "I don't want to get killed, send him."
Officer #3 "F**k the Emperor, I'm outta here".
Officers #1 and #2 in unison: "Me too."
Jerjerrod, unaware of this, stands at his post, waiting to get the Death Star in firing position.

Nah, that was just silly.

You'd think the Emperor's guards would at least be notified.

They might not be so hasty to warn him... seing as though they would die in an instant for him.

Because it was far safer to hold off telling him, and hope that you can win. You can then safely tell him after its all over.

Saying:
Our invincible shield is down and rebel fighters are currently making an attack run that could kill us all
is not something that will keep you alive when dealing with the Emperor. Alternativly, saying:
There was a slight problem when our invincible shield failed, but we fought off the rebel attack, and won the battle
probably wouldn't annoy the Emperor as much, as he knows he's not going to possibly die in a minute or two ;)

Er, you think in the thick of a massive battle, they're going to take the time to scan the entire surace of the Death Star and try to figure out which tower one man is sitting in, when they could just as easily fly in and blow the whole thing up?

Wouldn't the Death Star's Luxury Suite be something you'd find on those stolen plans? Or is it just that Palpy allowed the Rebels just barely enough information to formulate an attack plan?

First off, it seems the Rebels would only have what Palpatine allowed. Not to mention the tower would probably be an extra add on later after the initial design.

In the novelisation the Emperor orders JerJerrod to fire on Endor if the sheild goes down regardless of the danger.

They only had the plans to the first DS, not the second, and since the second is much larger, its position would be different.

What did happen to them, anyway? At the end of the duel and Palpatine's treatment of Luke, neither Luke nor Vader looked to be in any shape to fight anyone else. So how did they get passed the Red Guards? What happened to them? I somehow doubt they abandoned their posts.

Uhh....weren't the DSII plans stolen by Luke and Dash Rendar from the Suprosa?

Maybe when Palpatine ordered them to go away, they went to their quarters or something?

Would they necessarily weak-minded? They are among the elite soldiers of the Empire who were hand-picked to protect the Emperor of the Galctic Empire. And I thought they were also Force-trained.

So what was Mon Mothma saying about Bothan spies, again? And what was that big glowing hologram in the Rebel briefing all about? They had plans to the Death Star, so they could have quite possibly found the Emperor's tower.

Then again, I don't think that any Rebels knew that the Emperor was present at all. If there's supposedly nothing there, why bother atacking?
