Maybe with the Emperor already dead and their primary purpose of defending him over they commited ritualistic suicide to be with their leader in the next life or something weird like that.Stofsk wrote:What did happen to them, anyway? At the end of the duel and Palpatine's treatment of Luke, neither Luke nor Vader looked to be in any shape to fight anyone else. So how did they get passed the Red Guards? What happened to them? I somehow doubt they abandoned their posts.Techno_Union wrote:You'd think the Emperor's guards would at least be notified.
They might not be so hasty to warn him... seing as though they would die in an instant for him.

They could have killed Luke and Vader or at least attempted to, before committing ritualistic suicide. Hell if Mara Jade is given a telepathic impulse to kill Luke Skywalker from the Emperor then why not his immediate guardians? I just want to know if they were too far away to intervene in Luke's escape or if they were killed by Luke who was in the process of escaping.

WTF are you talking about? They had to steal the plans for the second Death Star as well, which was one of the major plot points of Shadows of the Empire. Also, since Palpatine let the Bothans have the plans (while still putting on a show of getting them back, so the Rebels wouldn't get suspicious), it's very likely that he either gave them slightly outdated plans or 'fake' plans without the tower. Hell, it's possible that the tower was never in the 'official' DS2 plans, and was simply designed onsite as an addon at the Emperor's request.Praxis wrote:They only had the plans to the first DS, not the second, and since the second is much larger, its position would be different.Hardy wrote:Wouldn't the Death Star's Luxury Suite be something you'd find on those stolen plans? Or is it just that Palpy allowed the Rebels just barely enough information to formulate an attack plan?Praxis wrote:Er, you think in the thick of a massive battle, they're going to take the time to scan the entire surace of the Death Star and try to figure out which tower one man is sitting in, when they could just as easily fly in and blow the whole thing up?

Most probably the latter. They would've been pissed that he (as they would've thought) killed their master; remember, Tierce killed Rukh after the Noghri killed Thrawn. Probably they're conditioned to exact revenge, no matter what the circumstances, upon any who violate the person of the Emperor and/or try to ursurp His Imperial Majesty's authority (hence the Guardsman's assassination of the Moff who was doing a coup attempt in Crimson Empire II). Since Tierce was a clone, it's not unreasonable to assume that Thrawn programmed him to be loyal to himself in a similar manner, or had the means of doing so.Stofsk wrote:They could have killed Luke and Vader or at least attempted to, before committing ritualistic suicide. Maybe they saw this Jedi come out of the throne room dragging Darth Fucking Vader, AFTER apparently vanquishing the Emperor himself, and decided that the Death Star crew had the right idea with the "Get Out of Dodge" Plan.
Not to mention that the DS was falling apart around them. Maybe they were forced to evacuate or killed in a blast. I don't think it's that big a plot gap.

The Red armours troops seen in RotJ weren't the Royal Gaurd.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:Would they necessarily weak-minded? They are among the elite soldiers of the Empire who were hand-picked to protect the Emperor of the Galctic Empire. And I thought they were also Force-trained.
They were only Stormtroopers in red armour, easily manipulated ala ANH. The real royal guard was surving as a Stormtrooper unit on Generis this is stated in "Spectre of Past"

Wrong, later EU sources point out that not only did the Rebellion know Palpy was there but Mon Mothma wanted to put off the attack because of it.Hardy wrote:Then again, I don't think that any Rebels knew that the Emperor was present at all. If there's supposedly nothing there, why bother atacking?
Wrong. Specter stated that the Imperial Guard unit Major Tierse(sp) was attached too was on stormtrooper duty. They does not mean that Palpy had only one guard unit. Theres bound to be more than 1 IRG unit.crazedwraith wrote:The Red armours troops seen in RotJ weren't the Royal Gaurd.

Actually, as stated in the first book of the Hand of Thrawn duology (forgot the bloody name), the Royal Guard was composed of several units, rotating back and forth between field duty and guard duty; the field duty was often on rebellious planets, where the Guard units were used as special-forces troopers in order to keep their skills sharp. Tierce-- the original-- was in one such rotation when the Emperor was killed.Crazedwraith wrote: The Red armours troops seen in RotJ weren't the Royal Gaurd.

No, he said the The Royal Guard was rotated with Stormtrooper units.
