Maybe some people don't follow current events as closely as others. I thought the word would have gotten out about that whole "Confederates getting their asses kicked" thing by now.

I don't get it either. I suppose it's that Americans don't like the concept of losing a war, and they lost that one... Although if they'd won, they wouldn't be U.S. citizens anymore... Hmmmmmmmm.

I think what you have here is a culture that is defined by military defeat, mixed with the reasons behind the war (racism, slavery) they're not the good guys either so what you have is a whole region that when they look back a hundred years they were slave holding traitors that rebelled and lost. Look at the Japanese and their inability to face WWII. Except Southerners have glorified and enobeled their past.

They range from regionalist who have romancized the period in their heads has their's birthplace's greatest hour, to fundies who bemoan the "illegal invasion of the peaceful southreners and their brutal oppression." Remember those guys Rogue 9? They even got a website, detailing their plans to turn Virginia into a theocracy that would make Osama proud (if he was Southren Bathist anyways).
