Would anyone rather see at least one debate where a topic is tossed out and both sides must debate it for 30 minutes. They have to respond to each other's points, refuting their points,etc.
I think we get more out of this style of debate than this structured nonsense. It shows us who can think on their feet, have mastered the facts and have a skill in public speaking.
As Howard pointed out this morning, these debates will turn into more of a beauty contest than what each candidate actually believes.

it'd be a nice change of pace from having candidates have carefully crafted responses spoon fed to them. it'd also give us a greater idea of a candidate's ability to make snap decisions and judgment calls. shrubby wouldn't last in this style of debate at all, though i'm not all that confident about Kerry's ability to last in one either.
