Berman offers advice to Lucas about SW TV show

Post by Old Plympto »

Hope this is the right forum:
In a recent interview that we had with Star Trek head honchos Rick Berman and Manny Coto we asked them what kind of advice they would offer George Lucas regarding a weekly Star Wars TV series. "Its one thing to have three years and over a 100 million dollars to create a one 2 hour movie compared to 22 to 26 one hour episodes in a year with a very limited budget and still have to remain fresh in the eyes of your audience", said Berman. Manny Coto also had a good point when he said " You have to concentrate on the story and also the characters and not make a weekly special effects show." When asked if he had any other advice for George, "He can always hire me if Enterprise doesn't work out".
From here.

I'm more intrigued in the idea of Kevin Smith at the helm. :D

translation: when i get fired i hope mr lucas has some room left for production staff because i'll need a job.

And I'm sure George would say something along the lines of "I don't need a two-bit jackass masquerading as a producer to screw up my franchise."

You now, I never considered that. But yes, it does fit in with Berman's character.

Yeah Lucas can do that perfectly well on his own :D

Personally, I think Berman is the better of B&B.

He worked on TNG and that was a good serious when he was not in over all charge
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

If Star Wars turned into TNG, that would be a horrible travesty. While the gangrene was not as obvious back then, all of the crucial brainbugs that led to the subsequent decline of Star Trek were there.

I'm sorry, but the idea of Han and Chewbacca spending a full hour's episode trying to save the Millenium Falcon from some computer virus makes me want to scratch out my eyeballs with a pair of dull rusty sissors.

How long would it take him to make time-travel episodes, peddle stories involving droid programming glitches threatening the lives of the crew, and force every single episode's plot to follow the "A-thread story arc + B-thread soap-opera character-growth" forumula?

Perhaps they should have been taking their own advice ten years ago.

People, you know this could go the route of Stargate SG1 or Farscape. Lucas DOES like continuity, and continuity alone can help bring about good stories because it forces the writers to be more creative.

IF it goes like that I will be overjoyed. Hell, if it goes the route of the Clone Wars serials I will be satisfied.

But I am bracing myself for continuity to become so fucked and the movies so contradicted that straight canon becomes the only viable debating medium.

The title of this thread made me want to scatch my eyeballs out with a pair of rusty scissors.

Seriously, I'm with Alyeska on this one, it could be a very good thing in the long run. And, unless it's on at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday mormings, it can't be worse than TPM...we shall see.

Why do I have this feeling that if Berman is hired, Star Wars: The TV Show will include lots of crew members killed by exploding bridge panels, lots of technobabble, and useless tubes snaking throughout Star Destroyers?

Not to mention stories about Star Destroyers being trapped on the other side of the galaxy and taking years to come home, running into weird anomalies and super-powerful aliens on the way...I can see it now.

I think it would have to be other side of the universe for it to take years

Or we'll finally see SW versus ST on screen! And what'll make it more interesting would be the people in the Technical Advisors position: Mike Wong and RSA.... Good times. Good times, I tell you.

In ST5 the Enterprise was somehow able to go super fast and reach the center of the galaxy. I expect the ISD will somehow end up going super slow. You know, continuity and all that. ;)

It's cool, but it shouldn't be killing crew members while the shield is up
