American computer games make North Korea angry

Post by Ma Deuce »

KCNA wrote:Planned Distribution of U.S.-Made Anti-DPRK Computer Games under Fire

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean company of computer games "Wizard Soft" is going to introduce anti-north computer games such as "Ghost Recon 2" and "Splinter Shell 3" from the U.S. company of computer games "UB Soft." Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed commentary brands this as a hostile provocation against the north.
It says:
The "Ghost Recon 2" and "Splinter Shell 3" are based on the absurd assumption that the U.S. strikes nuclear facilities in the DPRK and dispatches special units to perpetuate terrorism in anticipation of the contingency on the Korean peninsula.
The south Korean company is going to use such controversial things as means of making money, obsessed with accumulating fortune, at a time when the prevailing situation reminds one of the eve of war due to the nuclear stand-off between the north and the U.S. Such thing can be done only by those who are bereft of national conscience.
The U.S. produced a lot of computer games on the themes of the Afghan and Iraqi wars before igniting those wars. When recalling that those computer games simulated actual wars, one cannot overlook such attempt to introduce north-targeted computer games into south Korea.
The south Korean "Wizard Soft" should cancel at once its anti-national plan to distribute games inciting enmity towards the north in south Korea without any consideration, blind with money-making.
It is an anti-national, anti-reunification criminal act to introduce those controversial things aimed to provoke the north and incite anti-north feelings and conscience of confrontation in south Korea or overlook this practice.
The war game of the U.S. imperialist warmongers can go over to a real war any moment. If the south Korean authorities permit the introduction of north-targeted computer games reflecting the U.S. sinister aim to invade the north, this will only prove their intention to incite confrontation with their fellow countrymen, start a war of aggression against the north in collusion with outside forces.

And in other news, stupid people can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

Wasn't North Korea just bitching and moaning about the last Bond movie?

If the NK government is so pissed about the bad represenation in the entertainment industry, they should make their own version of James Bond - a NK secret agent who gets captured and tortured by the CIA, then manages to blow up the SAC headquarters at the end of the movie and they can market video games that use the Unreal Tournament engine where you fight American invaders, or a Sim City-type game, except it's called Sim Nuclear Reactor...

Mostly I think they're just pissed that the South has computers, while the North doesn't even have reliable electrical power...

Oh they have a few computers, but it's very telling that the North has trouble acquiring even Pentium IIIs...

Hezbollah already beat them to stealing the Unreal engine. But anyway, isn't Ubisoft owned by some big France based company?

Actually to be more accurate in presenting NK options of diplomatic reciprocity, I would have used examples of Amiga games, but I don't I know any.

They have trouble getting Pentium IIIs? Isn't that just a matter of getting someone outside the country with a bit of foreign currency in their pockets, then telling them to buy computers?

The funny thing is that Kim Jong-il probably gets all his crazy ideas from Bond villains.

They couldn't even get the name of a computer game right. Pitiful.

P.S.

If Splinter Cell is a "war simulation", then my name's Clint Eastwood.

They're just jealous because they can't afford Playstations and X-Boxes up there. They can't really afford food either, but that's a different thread.

To add to that: Ubi has significant production assets in the United States, they publish many games they didn't actually develop, and most importantly, in the World according to North Korea, there are only 5 countries besides their own: South Korea, Japan, China, Russia and the United States...

They're just jealous because North Korea's concept of "High Tech" is still "Etch-a-Sketch".
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

The DPRK is like that long lost relative or lonely kid at school who always has something to say no matter how irrelevent and how much everyone else doesn't give a shit.

Hmmm, here I thought they were too busy butchering each other for food to worry about such counter-revolutionary ideals like "leisure" and "entertainment"...

The Dear Leader carries the Glorious Revolution forward on the backs of millions of Etch-A-Sketches! So be it. :D
