OK, the debate starts in about an hour. Both Fox and CNN are having pre debate specials. You can post your reactions to both the debates as they happen here and what's mentioned in the specials.

Oh I do love stand-up comedy, but I may have to have an early night tonight. Should I expect this to be splashed all over the news with any specific headline?

I'll try to check it out. Then again, the 32 page 'rulebook' makes me think that this 'debate' is merely a front to ignore the issues and repeat soundbites ad-naseum.

O'Reilly: Bush will be optimistic. He will say we're winning the war on terror, the situation in Iraq is under control and we are safer now than before the war.

Kerry will have to be pessimistic. He will tell us America is in trouble and going down the drain. That is not very comforting to the electorate. And he has to be nice to Bush because Bush is generally well liked by the American public.

Gee, guess the strategy is to admit that nothing is wrong. Thanks Bill I'll file that away somewhere....

Fox is making a big deal about Kerry going to get a manicure. I switched between CNN and Fox. 30 minutes of CNN, 40 minuites of Fox. Fox has mentioned the manicure thing precisley 9 times in 40 minutes. I have yet to hear it mentioned at all on CNN.

Instead CNN is focussing on possible questions, weak points of each candidate and poll numbers.

Guess which channel I'll be watching during the debates?

The rules thing is silly as hell. 2 minutes for the questioned, 1.5 minutes for a counter response and then the moderator at his discretion can add an additonal 60 seconds. Geez...I wonder if we'll really get to debate the issues.

That's idiotic. Why do they bother debating if all they have time for is a sound byte? The format of these debates just bothers me a lot. I really wish they would go back to the old-school Lincoln-Douglas style of debating....
