That's a semantics game, when I have already stated that the UN is a perfect catch-all term for garnering international support and finance for your mission.Stuart Mackey wrote: False. The UN does not posess forces of its own, for example, NZ's forces got their stuff sent in via the Franch Navy *the shame, the shame*
The operation was a multi national effort, dont make the mistake of assuming that the UN did anything without intervention of ANZAC forces or the support of other nations.
The plain and simple fact is, without the UN authorisation of INTERFAET, Thai, Singaporean and Malaysian logistic and medical support would not have been forthcoming.
Semantics again. INTERFAET being UN authorised is a UN peacekeeping force. You know as well as I do that operations done under the aegis of the UN is considered a UN operation.Ireelivant, BTw INTERFET was UN authorised, it was not a UN op, that came later. I will say it again putting Timor back together happned only because NZ and Aussie would no longer tolerate what was happening. The UN legitimised it, but it was ANZAC that made it happen.
And I will say this again. The UN legitimisation of the operation, allowed for significant logistic, medical, and in the last phase, ground troops that thus accelerated the occupation. Without contributing forces from ASEAN, which would not have moved in without the UN, ANZAC could not have sustained both humanitarian and combat operations at the same time, thus significantly delaying the successul East Timor handover.
