How did you become a Star Wars fan
Moderator: Vympel
I've been watching Star Wars since before I can remember. I remember my grandmother buying me the VHS box set for Christmas when I was about 5, but I'd seen them before that.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.

God I feel old, all of you young pups saying you never saw it until the '80s... or later.
I fell in love it StarWars in 1977, immediately after Mom and Dad took me to the theatre. That theatre is gone now, but my love for StarWars has never dimmed.
Although some of the EU books have made me falter... but they are not STARWARS.

Nitram, slightly high on cough syrup: Do you know you're beautiful?
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

I was one of those crazy kids who saw it and got back in line to see it again!
I was 3 in 1977 and was taken to Star Wars for my birthday. What made it great was the opening 5 min. I was hooked ever since!

I stood in line in 1977, the opening weekend of the movie in one of the old cinema houses where it was a giant screen, one movie only and had opera style seating. The line stretched out and twisted around the block. I remember my mom buying me ice cream as we waited in the heat to get in.
We sat down and the opening credits rolled and then....the stardestroyer rumbled overhead...and kept on going and going and going. I had NEVER seen anything like it before and my jaw dropped and for the next two hours I was transported to another world.
I met a duo of reckless droids. A young farm boy always looking to the horizon and adventure. An old wizard with many secrets and the first one to introduce me to the concept of the Force. (Before midichlorians shat all over it) A roguish pirate who got the drop on the bad guy in a way I have never seen before. He was so good he was bad. A lumbering bear that would rend the bad guys limb from limb to protect his friends.
I saw the power of the Empire and will never forget Vader choking the life out of a hapless rebel. The stromtroopers, deadly in all white armorand who could forget the entrance of the biggest badass in cinema history as he strode through the door of the rebel ship and inspected the fallen.
The crazy brave Solo and Luke's rescue attempt of the princess. Her smart mouth telling them off and showing me that there are indeed strong women in movies and they are cool.
The final battle over Yavin as X-Wings (to this day the coolest fighters ever on screen) fought TIE fighters for the fate of the rebellion. And when I heard Obi Wan's voice say "Use the Force Luke." the swelling cheers from the audience followed by its roar as Han Solo cried out "Yahoo!!!"
As a child I have never seen its like before and have not seen it since (though the LOTR trilogy came damn close to igniting those feelings of "Whoa' in me again) I have been a die hard fan since.

In 1994, I bought the regular old full frame VHS trilogy set, which was the first time I had actually seen ANH complete for the first time. A few months later Uts and I started collecting SW books, including the WEG books even though it would be several years before we actually played the RPG.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Saw RotJ in the theater when I was in the 1st grade. Slavegirl Leia was my first inkling that a female with not many clothes on was cool, though at the time I didn't know why.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster
What turned me to eventually watching them was the Thrawn Trilogy, which I borrowed from a friend. I was hooked after reading it. Only after that read did I watch the movies.

I saw Episode 4: A new hope when i was about 11 years old. it was in the year 1991, i think. I saw the whole trilogy in Swedish television in 1993 and after that, i was completly in. I don't even remember how many times i have watched them. And this autumn my dream came true when the old trilogy was (re-re-)released on DVD.

Anyway since it's here, I watched Star Wars because I just wanted to when it came in 1997. It was as if it was a calling, just out of the blue I just wanted to see it. Hell, I remember I was also very upset that I couldn't even go on the first day because all the tickets were sold out at Ziegfield. (the only theatre I'll go for SW)
I didn't even really paid attention to SW either before that, I was a TNG and DS9 fan at the time.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Pretty much as long as I can remember, I've been a Star Wars fan.
I used to watch crappy taped versions of the Movies until I got them on VHS, and when my family got it's first computer when I was about six, I started playing the games, got an SNES, and played the Super Star Wars games constantly.
I've been a fan all my life it seems.
Hell, my parent's first date was a trip to see ESB when It came out.
I guess it was predestined or somthing. Every time a movie's come out within my lifetime, I've been there on the first day to see it, and I still enjoy all the movies (OT more than the Prequels, but who doesn't?) and I just picked up my OT DVD box set.
I'll probably be a fan until the day I die, as will many people. Long after SW had faded from the public eye, when it becomes as obscure as the Flash Gordon serials that inspired it, I'll probably still be daydreaming about that galaxy far far away..........

And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Ever since I can remember. I don't know why or when, but I've loved it forever.
And IIRC, I read my fisrt SW books (Zahn's Thrawn trilogy) when I was 7.

I saw the Empire strikes back on TV around 1991, and the most prominent scene was the escape from the space wurm. Lucky for me, I didnt remember the ending of the movie, until after my parents had brought home the trilogy after a trip to costco, and I watched the whole thing over again. I remember that day well.
