Yes there is. My mom is one of the 1 in 10000 people that had an overcorrection which is about the worst thing you can have happen. She had to wear special glasses for three months, then they took her in for a second surgery and she came out with 20/15 vision. She said that despite what happened, she is still extremely satisfied with her decision to have the surgery.

Just to give you an idea of the rarity of this, the doctor who performed the operation on myself and my mom has done 24,000 of these operations and only had two other patients like my mom who were both corrected to within 20/20 vision.
And how did the surgery look for you? Did you had the divine 5 seconds of "Will it work or will I be blind for the rest of my life" kind of situation?
When they first use the laser, your eye that is open goes black for about 15 seconds which is a little unnerving, but they have a nurse holding your hand that tells you everything is fine and that what is happening is normal. The whole procedure takes about 8 minutes per eye and is relatively painless.

The interesting thing is not the surgery itself, but what happens when you remove the protective shields the next morning. Although you can still see with the shields, it is blurry and not really noteworthy. When I took mine off, I can't explain the delight I had in having perfect vision. I have worn glasses for years and even with a perfect perscription, I NEVER had vision this clear. It was like I had been blind my whole life and all of a sudden I was given a set of God's eyes to see with. This effect has not faded, I am still constantly amazed at the precision of my vision. Just as an example, I can now make out the finest details on the Moon which before merely looked like a big blur.

I can't recommend LASIK surgery enough, it has changed my life in more ways then I can count.

My eyes are 20/20 by my last exam, but I know that to be innacurate. My left eye maybe, but my right eye has 20/25 or maybe slightly worse. Good enough for nearly anything, but I do not have superb clarity; and wish I did. Strongly.

In my case, it's the sphere... I've got my full prescription around here somewhere, just don't feel like digging around for it (my housekeeping suffers greatly in summer, since I'm out doing stuff instead of inside cleaning.)

I have -4.5 on the right and -4.75 on the left. At least I had a year and a half ago, but it's probably gotten worse since then... But I can still almost read SD.net if I have my head closer than 25 cm from the monitor, without my glasses.

I think it's -4.00 left, -4.50 right, plus a correction for astigmatism in the right (caused by acid scarring from a childhood accident). The astigmatism's bad, though. If I take my glasses off, I can read only by closing my right eye and holding the book to my nose. I've had glasses since I was 7. I won't wear contacts or get laser surgery, since the acid incident's left me with a bit of a phobia about things touching my eye  .

20/20 last I checked, which is sort of interersting since my sister, both my parents, three of my four grandparents, and most of my aunts and uncles wear glasses.
