Trandoshan's speaks german ?!?

Post by Crix Dorius »

After Piett said "Bounty hunters. We don't need that scum."
Boosk said to him somethink that sounds like the german "Pass bloß auf !!!" (means "Pay attention what you say!!").

Could that be ?!?

I don't know, it sounds more like he's clearing his nose than speaking in German.

Maybe it's the sound of barn animals.

Part of the name of the Star Wars beat'em'up Master of Teräs Käsi and the name of the SW-verse martial art Teräs Käsi is Finnish. Teräs = steel, käsi = hand, Teräs Käsi = steel hand (kinda of... there is a typo, it should be written together Teräskäsi, with out a space between the two words). Considering that Steel Hand makes for a rather fitting name for a martial art and that an vovel that doesn't appear in English was used, I would say that the odds that the spelling of Teräs Käsi and the Finnish words teräs and käsi is just a coincidence is rather low.

So I'd say that it is possible that a real language is masquarading as an SW-verse alien language in this case as well (although I doubt that GL would have gone with a language as widely know as German, Finnish is after all by comparison rather obscure).

The main character in that game (created specifically for it), "Ardyn Lynn" (sp?) has a big robot hand, oddly enough. ; )

But doesn't George Lucas have a penchant for using real languages for use in SW instead of fake ones? For example, Nien Nunb(sp?) actually speaks an obscure african language, and the obviously Hebrew/Aramaic writing on Darth Vader's suit.

To me it sounded like something like "Watch out".

I didn't suggest it was. But since you didn't get what was being pointed out, I figured it might as well get clarified.

Anydangway, the theory is interesting, but I doubt it's a German phrase he's saying. Ossus' info is probably correct, and Crix is picking up words he expects to hear (like everyone does with languages they have an ear for).

Then there's the whole deal that when someone tells you to listen for something, you tend to hear just that.

It's like that link I posted during the summer that claimed the Donald Duck/Daffy sequence in Who Framed Roger Rabbit involved Donald speaking a racial epitaph. :?

Also with a lot of those false examples of backwards masking where satatinc messages are hidden in rock music reversed.

You're told previously what you're supposed to hear, so when you listen to it, you naturally hear it as well.
