I never mentioned interest rates, because interest rates are set by the reserve bank and not by the government. I'm voting based on free trade deals, which are set by the government. :P

I think that gay couples have every right to have equal recognition with straight couples, but I'm not so sure about the idea of them getting married. I think that marriage should be between a husband and a wife. I think there should be some other way for a non-married couple to gain the same rights as a married couple.

However, gay marriage is not something I'd even consider at the ballot box. It's really not something I care enough about to give enough weighting to affect any decision I might make.

I do not expect to alienate every gay person by saying this - the Liberal Party's only gay senator (I forget her name, I think she's from Queensland) does not agree with gay marriage, despite being in a long-term lesbian relationship. In reality it's just a big hype that won't make a scrap of difference when it comes to community acceptance.

While true, interest rates can increase based on the economy, and the government has great influence over the economy. If you spend more than you have the interest rates rise as a side effect; this was what happened under the recent Labor governments. Paul Keating and fucking Bob Hawke before him managed to screw over the economy with shitty decisions. Or so I've been told.

What do you base that on?

Marriage would be a good equalizer.

Well, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your point of view, it isn't an election issue.

Yes, because she has to go with the party line on this. Neither the Liberals or the ALP tolerate dissent in their ranks; I'm not sure any party really does, except the Democrats - and that was the cause of their split and current poor status. What is she going to do? Object to her PM's views, and risk getting the sack because of it?

I disagree; I think it won't magically change everyone's opinions on the matter to acceptance or tolerance, but I think it will go a long way towards it.

GODDAMN THE FUCKING INTEREST RATES! DAMN THEM TO FUCKING HELL!

If you were to ask the average fucktard on the street (ie voter) what fucking impact interest rates really have on their lives they wouldn't be able to tell you. But what they do know is that both parties have been telling them "high interest rates baaaaad". So they automatically assume that whoever promises low interest rates must be an economic fucking genius.

Goddamn Australia's bogan house-buyers. We need to incinerate them, man after man, village after village, town after town, city after city. Kill them, burn them. We must DESTROY!

It's probably because I rarely watch TV at all these days, but in what little I do watch (mostly around news time), the only political advertisement the ALP (Labor, without "U" ) seemed to have is that annoying rant about how Howard's "Ready to Go".

Hello! That tactic was old and feeble in the LAST election, nevermind this one, SO GET OVER IT ALREADY!
