If you have a disagreement with the actions of one of the moderator staff instead of confronting the mod in question and arguing with them you should raise the issue civily with another full mod or supermod or Mike himself. If the moderator in question was out of line or an issue raised that needs to be publicly debated it will be handled in a fair manner by the rest of the staff. These issues will be dealt with fairly and honestly but it might not happen right away. Please try to stay calm and be patient in those cases.

It goes with out saying that abusing this can and will have reprecussions for those abusing it.

Flaming moderators for their views is generally permissable. Flaming moderators for the performance of their duties is not and may result in sanctions (or in extreme cases, banning) depending on the circumstances. Also note that telling moderators how they should do their job is also frowned upon. Don't do it.

Elfdart, back the fuck off. "Going public" with disputes against mods is against the rules, and people have been banned for doing it before. Even if you feel that you have a legitimate complaint, you should go through proper channels to deal with it.

PD in B5 occurs at sub kilometer distances. Even with low end trek calcs, it's about 200 MJ per square meter because unlike nukes, an AM warhead will go off no matter what. Thus they are still dead.

Incidentally, that may explain the lack of PD in trek

We have a reputation as site that does not play nice and shouts down the opposition with a plethora of curses and verbal abuse and somewhere in there I think is a logical rebuttal to their arguments but that part gets forgotten when describing our reaction to fanwhores by self same fanwhores. Maybe we should tone down our volume a little Mike and they might come out to play.

You know perfectly well that the sort of people who run around screaming about our unfairness would say the same thing regardless of how we behaved. Dr. Saxton is always a gentleman, yet people still run around calling him a wildly biased fan-whore and totally unfair, yadda yadda yadda. People bashed Brian Young, sent him threats of violence, etc. I still figure they'd come here occasionally, even if only to speak their minds about what evil scum we are. Perhaps there just aren't that many rabid fivers out there.

They are scarcer, largely because B5 hasn't been continuing like Wars and Trek have. I expect if JMS revives it after ROTS like he says he plans to, we will see an upswing.

That said, they keep their distance because they actively expose the fact of strength in numbers over strength of ideas is their strategy. Start a B5 thread over at SB, you will get about 4 or 5 jumping on you at the same time. They spam the hell out of the thread with these huge replies that are mostly them not saying anything at all. It's painful to slog through it all, especially when they don't cite sources, will flat out lie about the series, or make things up, and have scientific knowledge that makes Bobby look brilliant.

Flaming the Moderator for doing their job, however, can have more serious consequences depending on what's going on around it. Up to and including being shown the door.

None, unless you are flaming the moderator for doing his job, in which case you will get either a ban or a warning because you're supposed to go through proper complaint channels rather than hurling public accusations. The exact disciplinary action to be taken would be a judgement call that varies from case to case.

For example, for someone who has never made a sincere attempt to contribute anything, the first-time public accusation of mod power abuse is pretty much an automatic banstick up the ass. Someone who has seriously attempted to contribute some kind of meaningful content to the board would probably get a first-time warning.
