New Press announcement from Microshit HQ!

Post by MKSheppard »

Redmond, WA (AP) Today, Bill Gates announced that the software giant's
new computing platform, PC 2004, which will be required for the forthcoming
Windows XP II OS will not run any other operating system, even older
versions of Windows.

Gates said this would make programmers jobs easier by not having to put
up with hardware designed for obsolete operating systems, which would
lead to more stability and ease of design.

It is a period of civil war. Open-source spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Microsoft Empire.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Windows XP Star II, a legally protected operating system with enough resource requirements to drain the computing power of an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Linus Torvalds races home aboard his Gremlin, custodian of the stolen source code that can save his people and restore freedom to the galaxy ...

Ha, but I wasn't parodying Microshit..........

I was parodying STEVE JOBS and his announcement that all new MACS
made after a certain date WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOOT OS 9......

that means.....

NO MORE COMBAT MISSION ON MACS!

FOR THIS, JOBS MUST DIE!

Why is it OK for apple to get away with shit that would have Microshit publicly
hanged?

This kind of reminds me of how Compaq used to be, making people with its computers buy Compaq SCREWS in order to keep their machines running.

They aren't getting away with it. Their market share is pitiful and shrinking. They are on a collision course with oblivion.

Do you remember the old MFM and RLL hard drives, and how Compaq hard drives used a proprietary interface? Ah, the shit-stained memories ...

Not that I know of. Linux game support is weak. Mind you, a lot of games won't run under XP either, so the best game platform remains venerable Win98.

Personally, I dual-boot Linux for work and an obsolete version of Windows for games.

The new windows will still not be compatible with older programs.

The Difference is, you will still be able to dual boot to an older
Windows and run it on your Pentium V......you cannot do that
with Apple.....

Well, there is the minor point that you can run operating systems other than MacOS (e.g. LinuxPPC, NetBSD).

From what rumors I'm hearing, he's simply not going to write the system enablers for OS 9 for the new hardware (which implies a different architecture for the new system, but that's all).
