Stormtrooper unit composition

Post by andrewgpaul »

Well, I've been suckered in to buying a load of WotC's Star Wars Miniatures packs, and have a respectable number of Stormtroopers. Rather than go with the rather irritating, "pick a force because it's good in the rules", where you end up with Tarkin, 3 Jawas, an Ewok and a Wampa, or whatever, I'd like to work out some 'proper' Stormtrooper squads.

For what it's worth, the Gallery shows all the minis - the Elite and Officer stormtroopers have a different gun than the regulars, but I don't know what they are.

Is there an online resource somewhere, that has a TO&E for Stormtroopers?

"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

Funky minis- the rifle the Elite and Officer stormtroopers are holding looks like the DLT-20A Heavy Blaster Rifle- you don't see it being used in the films by Stormtroopers, but you do see IG-88 holding one in TESB and it is listed as Stormtrooper equipment in the original DK Visual Dictionary.

Why didnt they try to make a game like Warhammer 40,000 for Star wars...or reprint the old Star Wars miniature rules??? The new mini game feels like well a trading card game to me.

The "elite" ones are indeed carrying DLT-20As (this weapon's analogue is unclear, though some suggest it may be a marksman's rifle), the "heavy" one is carrying a T-21 light repeating blaster (which is made out of lmg parts, although it seems to be intended to fire from the hip or shoulder as easily as from a bipod - an analogue could be the BAR), and the officer is simply holding an E-11 with a large scope.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Incidentally, some basic information about Stormtrooper and IA squad composition can be found in WEG's Imperial sourcebook (which I think Shep still has online). Or you could model your squads after real life Marine squads, American or otherwise.

Actually, given the models I have, I'm going with 2 squads, each with an officer, 3 Troopers, an Elite and a Heavy.

Thanks for the advice, BTW.
