Aussie election commentary.

Post by Gandalf »

Right now, Channel 9 is saying the Coalition has 60 seats. Labour has 29.

And Stott-Despoja just said something about Family First doing strongly. Fuck.

Right now it's looking like 3 more years of Howard.

With most of the vote counted, its another term for Howard. Even worse, they are comming back with an INCREASED majority. I could see them wining with a very tight victory, but MORE people voting for Howard after the chaos of the last terms?

*sigh*

Well this country sucks. Hope the US has better luck throwing Bush out of office.

Mark Latham, Australian Labor Party wrote:Australians are ready.
I feel it everywhere I go.
Australians are ready to be rewarded for hard work.
Australians are ready for great schools- public and private.
Australians are ready for health care that's fair for everyone.
Australians are ready to protect our own — close to home.
Australians are ready.
Labor's ready and I'm ready.
If the past three years or so is anything to go by, it looks like it's Latham who's "Ready to Go". :)

And quite frankly, after hearing about the Greens' plans to pay prisoners full minimum wage (or more), I'd be happy to see them with absolute minimum number of seats.

Howard has given a fairly good acceptance speech, and a decent winner, very humble and thankful of the people. The crowd loved him. This has been a very good victory for the Liberals/Coalition. It seems as though that Libs are not only back for another term, but they're also possibly in control of the Senate, or in a good position at least. Ohhh shiiit.

Latham was very gracious in defeat, and I don't hold it against him. His concession speech was gracious and shows that he's a decent bloke. However, other Labor supporters and members have been downright petulent and petty throughout this evening. Latham may have come out of this wiser, and perhaps in a better position for the next election with this sort of experience, but as far as I'm concerned the ALP has shown itself to be a downright pissant of a party, and a sore loser.

"Oh, it's the Liberal campaign's fault." Um, no, their campaign must have been good, but it's not their fault that your own campaign was uninspiring and fell flat on it's arse.

"But the Jakarta bombing wrecked it for us!" Fuck you, dipshits. :x

"The economy was good before Howard took over!" I can't believe they're actually claiming credit for what Hawke and Keating did in their terms. Keating lost in a land slide election, after putting Australia into recession. According to him, "it was the recession Australia had to have." Riiiight. Stupid stupid Beazily. No wonder no-one had any confidence in you, stupid fuck.

"I blame the Australian people for choosing to believe the lies the Liberals have told." (No-one actually said it so directly, it was more or less implied and hinted at)
