R2D2 and C3PO for sale in Star Trek universe
A Ferengi Marauder finds two droids on an uninhabitted planet. They sell the droids to Quark. Quark realizes the advanced technology in the droids and decide to sell them to the highest bidder. Who will be able to buy them and how much would the droids cost ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Well, the universal translator seems to make Threepio's abilities somewhat useless, but their data storage capacity and emotions would certainly make Data (and his admirers) jealous.
I wonder if they would insist on trying to put rubber skin on the golden one? ; )
Though he's gold, so maybe the Ferengi would declare him their god...

Actually he still would have great use since they've shown the Universal translator having fits with unusual languages. Having something that can cooberate 6 million languages all with dialects could prove immensely useful.Kurgan wrote:Well, the universal translator seems to make Threepio's abilities somewhat useless, but their data storage capacity and emotions would certainly make Data (and his admirers) jealous.

Also both have a variety of utilitarian facets of technology not readily seen in Trek that would prove useful.

Not to mention (well I am guessing that Threepio could learn english, since he wouldn't have that from his experiences in the SW galaxy) that the UT might not even work on him, since he doesn't have organic brainwaves and the technology that they normally interact with (the droids) wouldn't be the same in our universe (ie: R2's socket adapter wouldn't be compatible with Treknology).
Still, the data storage capacity would be incredibly useful. He'd fetch a good price, simply due to their novelty (look how much they wanted Data).

Well I mean that the UT works for most of the languages they use in Trek, so they have little need for him.
And his "over six million forms of communication" doesn't imply knowledge of any of the ones in the Trek galaxy. He'd have to have algorithms to learn new languages that would make him valuable. Otherwise he'd just be useful as a historical tool for learning about the Wars galaxy for those who were curious, assuming they could decypher what he was saying to them (tie it into the Crossover scenarios).

Given how quickly he learned the Ewok dialect it shows he can crossreference data and he has shown the capacity to learn new languages. Protocl Dorids are just installed with the Six Million bit.Kurgan wrote:Well I mean that the UT works for most of the languages they use in Trek, so they have little need for him.

Also one shouldn't discount the fact that what makes them. Literally they are examples of new tech on levels that Trek may or may have not encountered.

What if Sisko finds out that the droids are intelligent and "sets them free", threatening to do nasty things to Quark unless he agrees?
Perhaps he'll be able to take Data's place on the Enterprise.

While Quark's looking away R2 runs off with 3PO following him, constantly complaining. Somehow they'll end up on Earth where 3PO's advanced rhetorics algorithms ensure he wins 99% of the votes and becomes Federation President. The Vulcan candidate never had a chance.
R2 becomes the shadowy power behind the throne, gets a new black paintjob and starts wearing a cape.

Ah, but that's the extent of 3PO's oratory powers!Stofsk wrote:What votes? I dunno, dialects aren't that hard to learn. For example a "southern dialect" isn't that hard for a Midwesterner like me to undertstand, though a Cajun dialect is a bit tougher.Ghost Rider wrote:Given how quickly he learned the Ewok dialect it shows he can crossreference data and he has shown the capacity to learn new languages. As to becoming proficient in sounding like one of them, it could simply be mimicry, after all we know that Threepio is excellent at mimicing sounds. Anyway, learning a dialect vs. learning a completely new language, that's a stretch.
I'm not saying it would be impossible, but where have we seen him show such a capability?

Re: R2D2 and C3PO for sale in Star Trek universe
I could imagine a TNG episode where Picard and his crew attending the auction, and work their way to free 3PO and R2 (following a long-winded conversation between Picard and Data) because "every sentient being has right to be free".The Shadow wrote:A Ferengi Marauder finds two droids on an uninhabitted planet.
