Jar Jar and the rest of the Gungans don't really bother me at all.

Don´t hate them, in fact I think they have a pretty cool army (although in need of modernization) and that ain´t too bad. My feelings toward Mr. Binks changes constantly, although I get a kick out of people speculating if it´s his voice shouting "Weesa free!" at the end of ROTJ.

I actually like Gungans, it's Jar Jar that I dislike. But I don't even really hate him, I just think the character was overdone. He doesn't bother me as much as he seems to get at some folks out there...
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

I like the Gungans, in fact they make it possible to get through TPM if you have small kids.

Jar Jar didn't bother me at all. When TPM premiered, I stayed away from all discussions, reviews etc. simply because it premiered later here in Sweden (it premiered in August '99) and I didn't want to learn any spoilers and that the hype was so enourmous, I wanted to form my own opinion. I saw the trailers, but nothing else. I must say I really like Jar Jar (except in connection with the Eopie fart joke). Sure, he's geared towards the younger audience, but he's also clearly inspired by Buster Keaton (to whom he also works as a homage). While the scenes with Gungan City doesn't add very much to the plot, it's a fascinating (and beautiful) environment, and the Gungan showed that they were pretty good in a fight against an enemy that was superior to them.
The animation of Jar Jar is, IMO, (strangely) better in TPM than in the brief scenes with him in AOTC, not to forget the fact that I think he looks more natural than Gollum in LOTR.

Jar-Jar is annoying and lame as a comedic sidekick, but I can usually just ignore his role as a character and just accept him as a random person. In other words, I like Jar-Jar so long as I don't picture the film as a written story that intentionally put him there for some purpose.

The Gungans are perfectly fine. Their dialect is tolerable and at least has an excuse, and any society who wanted to sentence Jar-Jar Binks to death by pounding should be a-ok with anybody. :)

One thing I absolutely hated about ROTK, was at the very start we see Andy Serkis (sp?) play Gollum before he became Gollum - and he was precisely 100% more convincing as a real life actor than he was as that CGI POS.

I disagree with you on Jarjar, for the same reason I hated Gollum: CGI is not convincing when its up close and personal. For the big scale, epic battles and battle fleets blasting each other to bits, it's not only good but actually required; but to see a CGI character? What the fuck is the point?

And as for Gungans proper, I consider Ewoks to be better.

Well here's something: Between TPM and AOTC, did the Gungans start to come out into the open and upgrade their technology etc?

I seem to remember seeing a couple of them walking about in some city on Naboo (might have been Theed, might not), in AOTC. This implies that they were indeed now comfortable living with and even among Naboo's human population.

Also, what became of them after the rise of the empire? Are there gungans in the rebellion? Or the empire? Or were they wiped out? Palpatine seemed to have a special hatred for them. Nute Gunray spoke of "primatives", but Palpatine, being a Nubian himself, would have undoubtedly known that these "primatives" Nute was talking about must be the gungans. His order to the viceroy... "Wipe them out. All of them."

There was some integration after TPM, but I don't think in general they accepted a lot of Naboo technology or traveled offworld. They were not wiped out with the rise if the Empire.

The Naboo and the Gungans became closer and even created a planetary shield together. There was increased trade and friendship.

I doubt they were wiped out since Gungans are shown in RotJ. Or at least a few Gungans are celebrating.

As for me, I don't mind the Gungans. Never really liked Boss Nass though. Not sure why. The others were cool, especially the army.

Actually, Nubians are from the planet Nubia, if you want the correct naming he´s a "Naboo". A Naboo ---> more Naboo.
Or were they wiped out?
Why must every single thing not seen in the OT be wiped out? "Is Geonosis wiped out? Is this species wiped out?" Come on, guys, it´s a big galaxy, can´t expect to see the same things over and over again. Except Tatooine. :P

I'd usually say something about Jar-Jar, but instead I'll go with Castrate Straha in vengeance for the "laugh at Mac users" thread :p

I hate the Gungans as a race as they only banished JarJar. They should have tortured him to death. But NOOOOO they even made him general after that

imho

I didn't have any problems with the Gungans, and I probably wouldn't have minded Jar Jar if he wasn't as obnoxious as he was in the movie. However, TPM would have been just as dissapointing if he wasn't in it.

Calm down people.

At least the Gungans LOST the ground-battle, while there are still people, who think, that the Ewoks won in ROTJ.

Jar Jar was irritating, to say the least. The Gungans spoke and looked silly, as well. I could definately do without.

Who surrendered to who?

Remember they won because of Anakin, not because of their tactics. If not for Anakin they surrendered to a foe they could not win against.

Ah...the FTiek is referring that unless Chewbacca gained the AT-ST...the Ewoks were in a rout in that battle.
