What's interesting about this is that they make absolutely no attempt to explain WHAT it actually is. What we DO know is that it is not a bulletproof vest according to the President's own aides. According to a New York Times article from yesterday, Bush's campaign responded that the President was definitely NOT wearing a bulletproof vest during the debate. So the question still remains: what the hell was this thing?CNN wrote:CHANHASSEN, Minnesota (AP) -- Bush campaign aides are laughing off widespread Internet suggestions that President Bush was wired during his first debate with John Kerry, to get help from advisers.
A photo taken during the September 30th event appears to show a small, boxy shape between the president's shoulder blades.
Musings on various Web sites suggest it could have been a radio receiver so the president's aides could feed him answers during the debate.
Spokesman Scott Stanzel calls the idea "ridiculous," and adds, "Some people have been spending too many hours looking at left-wing conspiracy Web sites."
He adds, "Did you hear the one about Elvis moderating the third debate?"

Could be the back of a pair of suspenders. The Kernel wrote:So the question still remains: what the hell was this thing?
Heck, could still be a bulletproof vest, no matter what the aids say; why let potential assassins know to shoot for the head?

I was thinking that ... but I don't think he was wearing any. And suspenders generally don't have thin wires that snake up your back, either.RedX wrote:Could be the back of a pair of suspenders.

More important: Was Kerry? That'd make senseStormbringer wrote:Was he wearing one of this lapel mics? Because I know we've got a few here at school that have little boxes that serve as relays to the sound system.

No, he was not, in fact neither of them were. Aparently the only mics that were used were the podium mounted ones (this was in the original article, check the old thread on the subject).Stormbringer wrote:Was he wearing one of this lapel mics? Body armour doesn't have a small box between the shoulder blades. Especially the kind designed to be concealed.RedX wrote: Heck, could still be a bulletproof vest, no matter what the aids say; why let potential assassins know to shoot for the head?
