Before we invaded Iraq, this might have been possible. By invading, we've set back the inevitable Iranian secular revolution by at least a decade.

Hmm... I may have to one day start a file of bookmarks labelled "Iran Boondoggle".

It should actually go all the way back to 1953, when Mossadegh was deposed...

[sarcasm]The poor Iranians...[/sarcasm]

Oh well, the best sort of freedom is the one you seize for yourself. There's no real excuse for the Iranians not to do it, since they've done it once already. For once, can somebody show some balls and show that they can free themselves without relying on somebody else?

The Iranians should not expect democracy on a platter. They should fight for it themselves, so that it is all the more precious to them.

Clear the nuke facilities with an airstrike. Provide moral and financial support for the democratic Iranians. But no military aid, which I supported in the past. For starters, nobody has the ability to do so, and doing so might exacerbate the situation.

What are you smoking? Outside interference, especially outside military interference like you are suggesting, will only slow the internal progress even more, because it solidifies the power base of the mullahs and allows them to focus more of the national attention to the outside threat instead of on the things that need fixing at home.

What the fuck are you on? The Iranians have a pretty fucking large pro-democracy movement that is using everything short of a military revolution to try and achieve its goals.

Protesting in the US might earn you some dirty looks and cat-calls. Protesting in Iran will earn you a bullet in the head in a back-alley.

They don't expect democracy on a platter, what they expect is for someone, sometime to actually give them some support, rather than conviently ignoring them as a minority.
