The Emporer's Better Halves

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

Real life rulers and the women who influeced them. Of which who were the strongest willed.

Cleopatra

vs.

Theodora (Wife of Constintine)

vs.

Bortei (Wife of Temunjin <Gengis Khan>)

vs.

Agrippina the Second (Nero's Mother, who ruled the Roman Empire (in all but name) from the time of her husband's stroke untill his death 15 years later)

vs.

Elenore Roosevelt (Ok, let's grant her status as the American Empress)

As for a "woman that influenced them", I'd actually have to say it's "none of the above", but rather Isabella, Queen of Castile.

For a female ruler? Catherine II the Great.

For a female ruler....I agree but disagree with DoZ...Catharine the Great II, or Elizabeth I of England.

And again, I'll go with DoZ on the influence thing.

I can't believe I forgot Isabella

although the period of 15 years where Agrippina ruled Rome (Her husband the Emporer had a stroke, and she basicly wrote the laws, and set the policies, using his stamp. Since his brain was mostly destroyed as a result.

I'm tempted to say Cleopatra as she slept and politicked her way to the top and very nearly caused a split between the East and the West of the Roman empire and definately did cause a civil war. Not bad for a Greek.

Well, Egypt had been ruled by a Greek dynasty instituted by Alexander for about 300 years at this point. She was a Greek ruler of Egypt. Needed to get Rome's support to fight off a power-grab by her brother.
