[Spoilers] Farscape Season 3
Man, what the fuck? Watched the season on DVD (hardly EVER caught Farscape when it was originally on) and my god - is it just me or is Crichton the unluckiest bastard in the universe?
On a bright note - Crais went out in style, fantastic heroic death for him and Talyn.
Main question: Farscape bummed out after season 3, correct? Or was a little of season 4 made?

Nope...fourth season was made...it's how it was ended that pissed of many fans.
Which is why they are doing and airing the Peacekeeper's war.
And yes, he is one unlucky sonavabitch...especially how the series ended.

Meh. Personally, I empathise most with Scorpius in farscape.
Race of evil lizard nazis (whose brutality you've experienced first hand) intent on taking over the universe and subjugating the species they can use as slaves and exterminating those they can't, are out there. Their warriors outnumber peacekeeper soldiers ten to one. Only a decisive advantage over them can stop the entire galaxy falling into their hands. One day, a guy called Chriton turns up, with everything needed to prevent this from happening in his mind. He stubbornly refuses to give it to you. Then he pretends that he's seen the fact that your major motivation is to stop a galactic holocaust... but nooo.... he blows up your flagship and continues to act like the sanctimonious, offensive jerkoff he is, bringing the galaxy ever closer to scarran armeggedon...

Actually that's what did win points.
Literally Crichton wasn't perfect...fucked up a lot, and literally he let his hatred for Scorpy get more in the way of things.
Funnily enough I have to wonder about the PK wars are going to actually build upon that.

Why did SciFi cancel Farscape anyway? I never understood this.
Back to OT
I think the reason he can't give it to him is then they will have the Ancients on all of their butts and they're a lot more powerful(though few in number) to the Scarrans or Peacekeepers.
Then again, if they're dying, it really doesn't matter, but Chricton could be worried about what happens when the Scarrans are defeated, and the Peacekeepers have a new weapon to rule the galaxy and be anywhere at anytime.

Quick summary:FaxModem1 wrote:Why did SciFi cancel Farscape anyway? I never understood this.
Henson co (rather the group that owns them) wanted a higher budget for the show. Scifi said no. The company tried to negotiate for a higher budget, but Scifi decided to use a loophole in the contract to back out and cancel the show instead. The cast got word of it RIGHT after they finished filming the season 4 finale, so they didn't even have time to revise the ending to give the series closure. (You'll understand it better when you see the finale.)

They are not. It's implied that if the Ancients went to modern earth and the primatives turned on them, they'd be fucked. By extension, if they tried to pick a fight with the Peacekeepers or the Scarrans it'd be like being sodomised by a telephone pole.FaxModem1 wrote:I think the reason he can't give it to him is then they will have the Ancients on all of their butts and they're a lot more powerful(though few in number) to the Scarrans or Peacekeepers.
Also, both sides have wormhole research programs. One of them will get it, and there isn't really any question that living in a galaxy ruled by the peacekeepes (Who tolerate all kinds of things on the few peacekept worlds we've seen) is better than one ruled by the Scarrans.

I can understand Crichton's position, here's this guy who's doppleganger has been in my head for a year and has been driving me insane.(Though I really really liked the character of Harvey and the actor's range with the character) Crichton fucks scorpy over, but then goes and does his best to fuck over the scarrans too.NecronLord wrote:Meh. I think thats the key. The Peacekeepers are better than the Scarrans....but they are still pretty bad themselvesFaxModem1 wrote:Why did SciFi cancel Farscape anyway? I never understood this.

I think old Jonny is trying to find a 3rd option that he can live with. I mean come on, giving the wormhole tech to the Peacekeepers is a bad idea, sure you'll stop the invaders but then what?

What is the actual Geopolitical scene in Fascape?
Are the Peacekeepers a nation-state?
Are the Sebations all untied under one country?
What the hell is Scorpius?

No, there are a number of nonaligned worlds that happen to be neutral. One of these worlds happens to be a group of former Sebations. But regardless, their civilisation has existed for thousands of cycles, which means that there is a great deal of shared heritage. Are the Sebations all untied under one country?
What do you mean? Depending on who you ask, he's the villain or an antihero. He is a hybrid between Sebation and Scarran crossbreeding. His mother was Sebation, and she was raped by a Scarran, though I think the actual details of the operation weren't quite so vulgar (rather, the rape was just a particularly cretinous act of malice the Scarran made, while geneticists worked to combine the two species' DNA). He discovered this and was quite understandably moved to revenge himself upon them. He's definitely obsessive, but not in the same way Crais was in Season 1. Scorpious has a limit, but his patience is considerable. He has the uncanny ability to tell when someone is lying. Scarrans love the heat, while Sebations are at risk from it. Because of this he needs to keep himself artificially cool or damage himself. That's why he dresses like a gimp and has a cooling rod in his brain. What the hell is Scorpius?
A fucking mess.Jeremy wrote:What is the actual Geopolitical scene in Fascape?
The Peacekeepers are predominately Sebations who hire themselves as armed forces for various client-states. The region the Peacekeepers inforce the law in is called "Peacekeeper space" for some reasonAre the Peacekeepers a nation-state?
The exact mechanics of how the planets are controlled is unknown, but it probably isnt directly by the Peacekeeper.
Nope. There are the Royal Colonies which are probably the largest independant Sebations worlds with their own military forces. Are the Sebations all untied under one country?
A Sebations/Scarran hybrid with an overwhelming, and understandable , hatered of all things Scarran. What the hell is Scorpius?

These two questions, I feel, are inextricably linked. The Peacekeepers are a self-sufficient, self-governing, self-sustaining, highly-organized mercenary force. They breed their own Sebacean warriors from selected breeding stock and romantic pair-bonding is discouraged. The Peacekeepers allegedly hire out their services to other worlds, but I get the impression this is a mutated version of Mafia protection. In short, "We'll protect you, but we'll also have more control over your government than you do." In general, though, Peacekeepers seem relatively innocuous if you're a "good citizen."Jeremy wrote:What is the actual Geopolitical scene in Fascape?
Are the Peacekeepers a nation-state?
Since they are such a large military body, owing allegiance to no single authority (other than their own), they are, in some ways, their own political entity as well, uniting many disparate worlds. As such, the Scarran plan for conquest directly conflicts with the Peacekeeper mandate of protecting their contracted worlds, and as a result thrusts Peacekeepers into the limelight of negotiating and/or fighting with the Scarrans should they invade.
There are very few other large independent bodies out there. The Luxan warrior-race and the Nebari race are two of them, though the Luxans recognized that alone they would be unable to fight the Scarrans, so they have allied with the Peacekeepers. The Nebari remain neutral, as is typical for their society of conformists (Chiana is, suffice it to say, not normal).
As has been answered, no. The most obvious example is the "Look at the Princess" episode trilogy. That is a planet of Sebaceans, but they owe no allegiance to the Peacekeepers or anyone else and have their own very dangerous defensive sattelite network which was frightening enough to even prevent Scorpius' command carrier from offering any opposition. Are the Sebations all untied under one country?
Scarran-Sebacean (father/mother) hybrid initially raised by the Scarrans. He developed a hatred for them because of the way he was treated and ultimately defected to the Peacekeepers in an effort to strike a blow against the Scarrans. He was later recaptured, but escaped once again and fully joined the Peacekeepers in order to promote ways of defending them against the Scarrans. He is a scientific genius and a fairly competent tactician as well. His unique hybrid nature allows him to detect the energy signatures of other beings, which is particularly useful to determine if someone is lying to him. He has no specific rank that has been mentioned, but his authority seems to supercede that of a Peacekeeper captain. He is, most notably, the head of the Peacekeeper wormhole weapons development project (though it remains to be seen if he restarted that project after coming to Moya to protect Crichton and then later being kicked out by Crichton to return to his carrier). What the hell is Scorpius?
