Which movie has the best commentary?

Post by Warspite »

For those of you that have heard the audio commentaries for the 5 movies, which one is the best? Which one provides more insight into the making of a movie, into the Artist's Intent (TM)?

For me, TESB is the best. Keshner provides that edge in relation to the other movies, telling how he wants to develop the characters, how he directs the scenes to come out with an intended effect.

LESS of that fucking sound guy would have been nice. Christ he would talk over some of the most dramatic moments of the films to tell us how he got the sound for a fucking pipe or door. I don't give a shit. I paid to hear GL and the directors tell me about the movie and the story not how you digitized this or stuck a mike into a refrigerator to record a broken motor. Fucker. :finger:

ESB definately followed by AOTC which had George really go into the Anakin character.

Oops, SW only. TESB was the best I thought. Kershner is a film genius, we need him back for ROTS!

And Warspite, it's getting hard to concentrate on posting when your avatar is there as it is.

I thought hearing from the sound guy was good during ANH since they had to come up with all that stuff from scratch but I didn't find him that interesting later on.

I also liked hearing from Kirshner in ESB. It was nice to hear a director's perspective. Lucas tends to speak more from the creator producer chair.

Although kirshner had a lot of interesting things to say his voice REALLY grated with me for some reason. i have yet to listen to rotj commentary.

I felt AOTC has the best commentary though.

Hey, one of my favorite subjects in the commentary was when the sound dude said he was the guy Han killed in the shield bunker.

I really didn't mind Ben Burt's commentaries, in fact, I liked them, especially the one in AOTC when he talks about the seismic charge sequence, and in the Bespin and DSII duel.

Whoever edited the commentaries is to blame for the (bad) timing... hum, that would be the sound editor... Oh, right.
