Episode III A5 Juggernaut

Post by Vympel »

Mentioned on Mike's Ground Combat Armor section for SW, those who visit the Episode III spoiler forum will know about it already. But it's out on the main sw.com Art of Revenge section now, so it's no longer spoiler material:

How cool is this vehicle?

Kick. Ass. Picture. Note the caption.

Looks like the tank design that was going to be used in TESB before they decided on walkers. Still cool, though.

I like it, looks like a mobile command centre, troop transport, and battlewagon.

Exactly. As the caption says, a lot of Revenge of the Sith has gone to unused ANH concept art, as the EU did. The caption even acknowledges the EU designation.

That looks a whole hell of a lot like the WEG "Juggernaught Mobile Command Centre" I believe it is referred to. WEG got it from the original art and now its in Ep3.

Go cross-pollinisation of media!

The GEDB's section on it. The picture is damn near identical, excepting the forward turret and aft command 'deathtrap' tower. Of course in this picture, it may well be that the tower has been blown off.

But otherwise, its preaty much identical. Kudos to the use of vehicles adopted to the EU and the retaining of their design.

Again, I wrote this in the spoiler section. This design isn't EU. It was designed for the Empire Strikes Back and can be seen in The Art of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, so this is a recycled concept of a design that wasn't used. In fact, the vehicle lacks some of the features that was shown in the Imperial Sourcebook, most notably the sensor tower (well, at least this design sketch did).

Personally I don't mind EU designs in the movie. In fact, I think it's a pity that the Z-95s wasn't included in Episode III. I prefer that design instead of the new design that was chosen for the Clone Fighters (shown on Art of Revenge a few weeks ago).

w00t! Another EU ship! More proof to Trekkies that Lucas respects the EU.

I want AT-PT's next! :D

I always thought the Juggernaught was cool. The first appearance I can remember is Darksaber, where a Jedi mind tricks the gunner into firing into his own vehicle.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye is actually where they first appeared. They were used to search for Luke, Leia, and the old woman, and our heroes hijacked one at one point.

I prefer that design instead of the new design that was chosen for the Clone Fighters (shown on Art of Revenge a few weeks ago).
Note, that was a design from two years ago, it´s not certain that the ARC-170 fighters will look like that...

If the leaked concept-art I´ve got is any indication, we´ll be getting an AT-PT "variation", at least. It was an open-air, one-man walker with legs that looked more similiar to the AT-PT than the AT-ST.

I´m also hoping for some nice vehicles (old and new) in the last five CW-shorts. :)

Yes, but we'll soon find out. According to TFN who has a description of the trailer (where Josh claims to actually have seen the trailer, they were right about the trailers for AOTC also) the ARC-170 fighters are briefly shown.

EDIT: To expand on my earlier post, I found that Dr. Saxton had this picture from The Art of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back showing a (partial) Juggernaut in the background:

This looks pretty much like the counterparts of AT-AT used in a strategy video game (Galactic Battlegrounds IIRC)

Yeah. It makes also sence that Rebels would use this craft or something similar as their counterpart for AT-AT (basically the same thing, bur not powerfull and being this old it probaly wouldn't hard to steal or buy one these.

it seems great but i thinmk that the centre of gravity shuld be reduced before the movie comes out, even better it should be fitted with 4 sets of tracks

Cool. Speaking of which. Is the Z-95 Headhunter an original concept design or pure EU??

the name is EU, but the most common apperence is from a x-wing concept.

Although that was a treaded vehicle, the Chris Sprouse drawings in that comic are too small to be a Juggernaut. But I don't remember if the novel called it a Juggernaut though. I'll tell you what EU vehicle that wasn't mentioned in the novel was in that comic though: the Uulshos Chariot Light Assault Vehicle / Command Speeder, although it had an open top passenger compartment.

Back to the topic, I believe the first appearance of the EU Juggernaut was in the Imperial Sourcebook back in 1990, way before the Thrawn Trilogy, where the Chariot and the Skipray made their first appearances as well, I think.

I seem to recall this being almost 2 times the height of an AT-AT with firepower to level a city. Is this right? I believe its in the Guide to Vehicles and Vessels

That must have been some other vehicle. The Juggernaut has never been described as bigger than the AT-AT, I think, only as an "AT-AT-Lite". ^^;;;

The main body of a juggernaught is about the same size of an AT-AT's body, I think. A juggernaught might be a little bit larger in basic size, but not by much.
