Even though it'd probably never happen who here thinks the US needs to put Israel in its place? I'm getting sick and tired of stories like these.....

It'll certainly make it easier for the peaceful elements on both sides. But it's the Middle East so who the hell knows if that'll count for shit.

Israel would likely press home their advantage. They have a tendancy to do that.

They would stop blowing up the Palestinians, but they would continue keeping them in poverty, bulldozing their homes as they please, and squeezing them into ever-smaller pieces of land in order to make way for the Glory of Greater Israel. They need "living space", after all.

On the one hand, I could understand if they went for her legs or something to keep her from reaching them (as they had no way of knowing what was in the bag,) but this is just extreme. And firing a round into the dead body?

Even by the extreme standards of the Israel-Palestine conflict, this is extreme. There's no excuse for what the commander did.

Is it just me or is extremism in general picking up all over? Here, there, everywhere, elements representing both left and right political spectrums are running willy-nilly towards their most extreme viewpoints and entrenching themselves.

There's nothing surprising about it. The Israelis believe that you can stamp out hate with hate, just as the Americans believe you can destroy terror by trying to terrorize those who you associate with the terrorists. This mentality does not help. It only creates an escalating cycle of hatred on both sides, to which apologists say "oh yeah, well I'll stop when the other guy does!" It's like the schoolyard, only with much higher stakes.

America, the EU, the UN... none of them want to touch this with a 10-foot pole since it is so volatile. They fear any peacekeepers would end up getting bled away by both sides.

But when I lived there, many Israelis and a few of the Arabs I got to know said that a solution must be imposed from outside-- because if either side is the first to offer peace, it will be seen as a sign of weakness, and attacks from the other side will step up.

Even though the average Joes on both sides recognize that peace must be had...

The problem is that they do not understand the distinction between "peace" and "victory". For most people, they define "peace" in terms of getting what they want and then settling down to stop the violence.

I'm all for kicking all the damn Israeli's out of Israel, bulldoze their houses, and squeeze them in refugee camps for the next 50 years.

This is not the first time this happened, how about the dozens of Palestinian kids that has been shot dead by SNIPERS while just walking on the streets or sitting in their own garden, in front of their parents!?
