Pick a Rich White Guy
Okay, coming in November, you have one of two rich white guys to pick for President. So which will it be?

I'll pick the rich white guy who hasn't been screwing up my country for the last four years.

Actually, millionaires tend to vote Republican, but billionaires (and richer millionaires) tend to vote Democratic. http://slate.com/id/2108136/Col. Got a llink for this? Not that I don't trust you, but that's big news if it's not just a rumor.Chardok wrote:I heard...that to clinch the election....Shrubby will make some new appointments...
Rudy Juliani- Secretary of state
John McCain- Secretary of Defense
I believe it was in US news and World report...I'll check when I get home. If he DOES do that...this election is over.

McCain makes sense as SecDef, but why Giuliani for state?

Popularity. Strong voter appeal in NYC, which determines the NY vote IIRC. And NY is a LOT of votes.RedImperator wrote:McCain makes sense as SecDef, but why Giuliani for state?

This would confirm my suspicion that Powell, as the sole sensible person in the Bush Administration, is out of the President's favor.Petrosjko wrote:Voting for the middle-class white guy myself.
And I seriously doubt Bush has a prayer at New York state, Guliani or no, but it could put him over the top in Jersey, if it's still tight there.
The nonconfirmed chatter I've heard said Rice was lined up for SecState, though.

Suspicion? I thought that was fairly common knowledge by now.Iceberg wrote:This would confirm my suspicion that Powell, as the sole sensible person in the Bush Administration, is out of the President's favor.

It is: Powell stated months ago that he would not be part of Bush's cabinet if he was re-elected. He claims that his decision is based on a promise he made to his wife before the 2000 election, not any disagreement he has with Bush or the rest of his cabinet...Darth Wong wrote:Suspicion? Probably because millionares are interested in making more money, but billionaires are more interested in not losing what they have. In gerenal I'd say that democratic candidates provide more opportunities for rent-seeking , but only slightly.HyperionX wrote:Actually, millionaires tend to vote Republican, but billionaires (and richer millionaires) tend to vote Democratic. http://slate.com/id/2108136/Col. Personally, I'm a bit surprised and disapointed that she wasn't shuffled into the VP slot. Cheney isn't getting any younger, and it might have made me rethink my vote.Petrosjko wrote:The nonconfirmed chatter I've heard said Rice was lined up for SecState, though.

She has an apparently earnest desire to run the NFL after the current commissioner retires. Bigtime football fanatic. Couldn't do that if she was occupying the mostly ceremonial position of Vice President.Symmetry wrote:Personally, I'm a bit surprised and disapointed that she wasn't shuffled into the VP slot. Kerry's a billionaire? I thought he signed a pre-nup that didn't give him access to Heinz Kerry's inheritance.

[/b][/url]Teresa on wealthiest list as worth jumps to $750M
By Noelle Straub
Saturday, September 25, 2004
WASHINGTON - Sen. John Kerry [related, bio] often tells crowds that he ``married up,'' but just how far up became apparent yesterday when his wife made Forbes magazine's list of the 400 richest Americans.
Teresa Heinz Kerry's net worth of $750 million ranked her at number 389, officially tied with eleven other people for last place.
Although President Bush [related, bio] commands a multimillion-dollar fortune himself, Republicans have tried to use the Democratic couple's vast wealth to portray Kerry as out of touch with the average worker.
Heinz Kerry made the Forbes list once before, coming in at 391 two years ago with a net worth of $550 million. Her fortune has been estimated as high as $1 billion.
The Kerrys own five homes, four of which Heinz Kerry shared with her late first husband, Sen. John Heinz III (R-Penn.).
The couple jointly bought their Louisburg Square townhouse on Beacon Hill.
Kerry cannot use assets held in his wife's name for his presidential bid. But he kept his campaign alive last year when he took out a $6.4 million loan from a mortgage on the Beacon Hill townhouse.
