I think the term "Reality TV" is hilarious. If you want reality, turn off your TV and go outside. They should be calling it "Voyeurism TV", because that's what it is.

I actualy enjoyed Combat Mission and Boot Camp but thats about it and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why but I thought that they were good. I really liked the Murder in a small town X as well. I never liked Surviver nor any of the nock offs and the ones that rip off the Jerry Springer show are stupid as well.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I liked the idea of Push, Nevada. It combined a good drama/mystery and added a bit of reality TV where you could win the money. Of course, it was cancelled so nobody's going to be winning.

Zaia wrote:i didn't vote because i both agree and disagree with both options. i have not ever watched (nor do i care to) any 'reality show,' so in that way perhaps i shouldn't even be contributing to this thread...hmm. anyway, the whole premise is positively ludicrous, and it is maddening that so many people find it interesting, let alone addictive (addictive?!). i have never been even remotely interested in that type of show, and now that it's such a phenomenon, i am even more against it. ugh! it is such shite! how is it that so few people see that?

anyway, since you started out by saying that you thought they were ok or something along those lines (like, that you had watched one or two), i couldn't say that i agreed with you. but i also can't say that you are insane, because this area of pop culture has indeed gotten a bit out of hand and needs to be exterminated. quickly pleeeeeease! somebody!!!!

*mew*

I said the first Survivor was decent. 5 or 6 out of 10. And just because you have watched something doesn't mean you like it.

Yeah...Combat Mission was cool, although why they had to include SWAT I have no idea. They should have a "Combat Mission International", with SEAL, SAS, Spetznaz, Delta Force, GIGN, etc...now THAT will really kick ass.

reallity TV*shudder* whoever thought og that idea needs to be fed ALIVE to crocodiles(that or snapping turtles, or better yet kittens or starving ethiopians)

I watch Tv for one reason....When I am home bored and the computer is occupied. And even then I watch the news, or the discovery channel, sometimes if who's line anyway(brittish version) is on I will watch that. If later in the evenng on a weekend I might watch starwars againn or some other movie on the sci-fi channel. But that is it. I watchmaybe two hours of tv a week. Why waste my time.

Concur with Alyrium. My TV pretty much has four settings

1: Fox News. Bullshit propaganda out of the way first.
2: CNN: ramping up the scale, slightly more respectable
3: BBC News: superb. You can't feel you're being fed propaganda if it's a Brit :)
4: TV1: the sci-fi, cheesy 80s shows, and various sitcoms.

Apart from that, it stays off, and its only on when I dont feel like using the computer/ going out.

Put them all on an island with no food. They'll eat each other, and the last one standing gets to neuter pit bulls.

Actually I'm thinking Battle Royale. With cameras. Fun to watch them try to weasel their way out of killing each other.

Ah, yes... "reality" shows. Although Survivor wasn't really the first. No, Survivor is nothing more or less than MTV's "The Real World"... yes, take all the vapid, juvenile high-school drama of "The Real World" and put it... outdoors. Oh, Yeee fucking haw. Now, let me also confess this small transgression: I actually enjoy Cops. Now there's some truly entertaining human idiocy. America's Most Wanted, however, irritates the living shit out of me everytime I'm unlucky enough to stumble across it. John Walsh's constant pretentious posturing has worn through. You lost your son, John? That's awful. Hope you catch the fucker and beat him like a gong. Until then, leave the cameras in the basement and save your money.

SURVIROR!

This is the Swedish plan to get even for Ricky Lake!

First we invent a TV show with the intended purpose of mentally harm all the contestants and the TV audience(sp?)

Then we get a shitload of people addicted to the “show”

People start picking sides… Arguments breaks out mentally unstable goons go out on a shooting spree….

USA pretty much gets eliminated as the US army pick one side and the Marines the other.

Nukes start flying

USA is no more

Revenge is sweet!

Survivor was played on a channel with more prospective watchers. And it seemed to be aimed at a wider demographic, so it could a bit more known than Real World, or at least watched more.
