John Stewart vs. CNN Crossfire

Post by Fire Fly »

I thought since there's decently large fan base here for John Stewart, you would find this interesting, John's take on partisan "debate" shows (Crossfire, Hannity & Combs, and others I can't think of at the moment). He was recently on CNN's Crossfire and has a rather brutal conversation with Tucker Carlson.

This is the first time I've seen the show, and I say with absolute confidence that the the guy in the bow tie is a dishonest, pretenscious, prick.

Oh, and my opinion of John Stewart is even higher now.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

That was fucking awesome. He schooled those two retards on their own show and they didn't even fucking get it the entire time, they just went into full spin mode.

It was truly amazing, Stewart , ostensibly a comedian buy trade, fucking schooled the entire panel, especially Tucker Carlson(even as a conservative minded citizen, hes an annoying little bitch).

Its a sad commentary on the state of the US media when it takes a 'faux news' show host demonstrate how truly warped the whole thing has become.

What's sad is that from the transcript I got this sense that Stewart was painfully sincere in trying to communicate his meaning, and of course it got drowned in the shouting.

The constant use of "crosstalk" in the transcript was one of the things I've long hated about these dumbass punditry shows. Talking over each other, shouting each other down... again, it's politics, Jerry Springer-style.

The phrase 'bunch of jerks who'll be the first ones against the wall when the revolution comes' springs to mind.

When did Crossfire get a studio audience? Thats sucks.

<-- hasn't had cable for 2.5 years

I did think that Stewart was pretty easy on Kerry, though. ("Is it true your wife gets a nickel every time I use ketchup?")

Comedy Central isn't supposed to ask hard questions, no matter how much the commercials hint they do!

If you didn't know that, go rust aaway in the trash forum like all the other retards...

That's the point Stewart was making! He's an ENTERTAINMENT show, like Conan or Letterman, they're there to have fun. Shows like Crossfire, which are supposed to, don't, and then have the gall to bitch at Stewart about it.

I don't get Comedy Central, so I have no idea what their commercials are like. (What part of "I don't have cable" didn't you understand?)

And Stewart does frequently ask his guests tough questions, as well as doing hard-hitting "reports" on various issues, even if they are humourous. The fact he can be funny and make a point at the same time is the main thing I like about the show.

"The lead-in to my show is a show about puppets making crank phone calls! What is wrong with you?"

Fucking awesome. Tucker Carlson is Stewart's bitch. It was rather sad to see Stewart's expression, though; it was the expression you would imagine seeing on the face of a well-meaning prophet of doom who can't get anyone to take him seriously.

Carlson: "I think you're more fun on your show. Just my opinion."

Stewart: "You know what, I think you're a bigger DICK on your show."

I want to watch the Daily Show now.

Hahahaha. That was great! The guys were caught off guard because they expected Jon Stewart would be funny instead of coming out swinging.

It was sort of sad, though, to watch Jon Stewart struggling to make his point, and then Carlson cuts him off by saying "Up next! Jon Stewart on...RAPIDFIRE!" and you just hear Stewart saying "No, no, no, wait, no..." in the background.

In the origional post, click on the "transcript" link.

Anyway, it was a great clip, especially the comments Stewart made about the hosts.

I just happened to have CNN on in the background when this came on. It was great.

My gut reaction was that by being an ass, they (and I mean Tucker, since the other guy wasn't in PMS mode) proved John's point, that they really aren't doing journalistic news but rather partisan politics and spinning. There's a definate difference in the level that both shows do, one is for entertainment purposes; John Stewart does not have to ask hard questions and when he has, he's always been polite and curtious about it. The other is a legetimate news source that seeks ratings that just pisses people off and what not.

It made me a little angry that they didn't even give him much of a chance to speak and every time that he did get to answer, they (and I mean Tucker, since again, the other guy wasn't feeling like he wanted to flip on the "I'm a Dick" switch) would always bring this around back to him. "Well didn't you just say we're too hard?" or something like that...idiot...you can ask hard questions and still not be in your face. Most pundit programs have wild arm waving characters who tend to already be paritsan assholes. I've always thought Tim Russert was a better example of a good tv journalist. He will ask the hard questions, he does his fact checkings and he always remains calm and proffessional and couretious. The state of news in the United States has become nothing more than theatrics with everyone trying to get a piece of Miss Rating's ass.

This video was great. Tucker Carlson is as always, a dick. Unfortunately the Douchebag of Liberty wasn't there. That would have been classic.

Holy shit!!! John Stewart was dead on and he made these guys look like shit. Tucker was an infantile little dick and as usual people underestimate Steart because of the show he's on. I love watching their faces as they slowly realize they're dealing with an intelligent person. My favorite line:
"C'mon say something funny" (How fucking petulant is that!?)
"No, I'm not going to be your monkey."

Stewart made them look like the retards they are. He points out that they polarize everything, and then they react by saying, "But we have to have a debate."

The point is that they automatically associate the right with one stance and the left with the opposite. If they would've given Stewart half a fucking chance to say something, maybe he'd have been able to get that out.

Thank you for being the first of three people to spell the man's full name correctly.

Yes, Jon Stewart kicks ass. He's probably twice as smart as those idiots, and I'll bet they weren't expecting him to be even remotely intelligent so they just mentally flatlined while he ripped them apart. I'm just glad he didn't worry about appearances or behaving nicely because someone told him to be diplomatic and went right for the jugular.
