Stupidity of this level goes on in Utah all the time. They move the 4th of July celebrations, they move Halloween, and other holidays. Well, except Christmas and Easter, cause you know there wasn't any Christmas or Easter before the Christians.

It crops up every couple of years, me and the wife rant and rave, then carry on with our lives.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I remember years ago when the exact same thing happened. Halloween was on a Sunday and all the fundies in town went crazy. My parents rolled their eyes and attempted to take me trick-or-treating anyway, and by November everybody had forgotten about it except for one little girl who wondered if it was going to be like that the next time October 31st fell on a Sunday.

And assuming a theocracy doesn't take over between now and then, the next Halloween on a Sunday the exact same thing will happen. Fundies will rant and rave and then immediately forget about it afterwards.

Dumb Person.
"You just don't do it on Sunday," said Sandra Hulsey of Greenville, Ga. "That's Christ's day. You go to church on Sunday, you don't go out and celebrate the devil. That'll confuse a child."

Unless you teach a child that Halloween is all about Devil worship, they'll just think it's a time to get candy and dress up. No confusion unless you cause that confusion, dumb fuck.

And the Harry Potter comment reminds me of some fundie on another message board. To paraphrase:

"Yeah, but Lord of the Rings magic isn't real. Harry Potter magic is."
What's funny is that even if you accept the fundies' brain-dead description of Halloween as a 'Demonic, Satanic event', it's still freedom of expression. After all, unless said expression is designed to incite, slander, or threaten, it's protected by First Ammendment rights, no?

Boise is a pretty conservative place with a lot of church activity, too, and every year, no matter what day Halloween falls on, there is a low-level grasroots campaign by the more active churches to bash Halloween and cancel it, saying how they refuse to let their kids participate in 'occultist rituals'...

Well, nobody else wanted their nerdy ass damnfool kids at the party anyway, so the majority of folks go out and have fun, fun, fun.

Folks like that are general-issue killjoys. And dumb.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

This is just the latest piece of wood on the pile, you idiot. A recent vote on a gay marriage and gay civil union ban passed by EIGHTY FUCKING PERCENT in Louisiana. Add to that the highest crime rate in the country, the highest church attendance rate ... yeah, it's a fundie shithole. But thanks for demonstrating yet again that you're a bullshitting moron, by pretending that there isn't a shred of evidence for Louisiana being a fundie shithole besides this lone incident.

Highest? Are you also counting the crimes committed by police officers against the citizens here? That would boost your numbers by quite a hefty margin I think. Oh wait, you can't count that, because it's UNDOCUMENTED.

If you couldn't already tell, my roommate and best friend Marquis was arrested for 'criminal trespassing' IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING STREET with no justification whatsoever. Today we come to find out he's been sentenced to half the maximum for that offense, which means he won't be with us again for AT LEAST TWO WEEKS simply because the asshole judge wants to appear 'tough on crime' so he can be reelected.

Tell me AGAIN how locking up an INNOCENT MAN for something he didn't do with practically no due process whatsoever is being "Tough on Crime", whatever the FUCK that means!? Oh wait, he was an EEEEEVIL GOTH, which means burnings at the stake are back in fashion again all of a sudden. Then again, the judge who gave him this sentence was a hardass Fundy infamous to anyone who's ever even heard of OPP. Justice is just as much about freeing innocent people as it is about convicting the guilty.

I feel less safe with the NOPD here than I did with the gangsters. At least gangsters don't go out of their way to fuck people up. The police here do, and therefore make us have to wonder if we'll get arrested for false charges simply because they don't like us that day, and therefore they fit the real definition of Terrorists. Terrorism isn't about bombs and shit like that, it's about cowing the population with fear. This time it's fear of being arrested at any time for no reason whatsoever and being found guilty of whatever crime they see fit to charge you with.

DO NOT COME TO NEW ORLEANS IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE AND YOUR FREEDOM. IT IS INFECTED BY A CORRUPT POLICE FORCE WHICH HAS PERPETRATED ACTS OF TERRORISM ON THE CITIZENS IT IS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT. BOYCOTT NEW ORLEANS NO MATTER FUCKING WHAT!

It is now, but it originates in ancient rituals to sooth the spirits of the dead, so they don't get up and cause shit here. This sort of mythology spits in the face of the idea of Heaven/Hell, where spirits couldn't come back to Earth if they wanted. It's just like Christmas, which is originally Saturnalia, a lengthy holyweek from Roman times.

Just as every other "Christian" holiday is based on a pagan one. I guess the bunnies and eggs of Easter are next -doubly so, considering the the holiday is named after Eostre, a Germanic goddess of the dawn. I wonder how these assholes talk about the days of the week. Tomorrow (Tuesday) is named after Tiwaz (or Tiu or Tyr), the Germanic god of war.

I've lived in Louisiana almost all of my life, and I can say from experience that while not everyone is a fundie there, the majority of the population would fit such a discription. It would not be diffucult to speculate that religous fanaticism and downright stupidity is worse there than in any other state of the union.

Nope Tyr is the Nordic god of courage and honour.

Odin is the god of war.

Hmm... wonder if it would be worth the trouble to drop an anonymous note about that to Louisiana Fundies and see if they start campaigning to legislatively ban the calendar as an "anti-Christian, negative pagan influence" on society...?

Excellent idea. We need to implement this plan ASAP so the Fundies look like absolute fools to even the dumbest Joe Sixpack in America. Groups tend to lose their power when they get egg on their faces.
