Uh, yeah numbnuts...I started the thread...
So you did. Now, why would such a movie have anything to do with the debate or indeed portray the numbers accurately? I remember your short fanfic. It dealt with the ISD defeating the Enterprise. But it did so in a way that did not show an unopposable technological advantage on part of the ISD. Would it really be better if this movie gave what we'd term an accurate portrayal of the two universes?
I just don't think that it'd be dramatic. Mike January's ISD Eliminator was the closest, and even that didn't portray the "true" advantages of an ISD over a Trek vessel.

this is a bad thing, because, why?
Because if the Federation dies in five minutes, where's the story?
Then just greatly reduce the power levels of the Empire.
No need to go into a long line drivel that is "If we repolarize the Photonic containment field we can harmonize the front shield to emit a harmonic pattern that will emit a high frequency tacyon burst!"

Saw the piece on Deep Space Nine vs. the Death Star. Don't think they realize there would be no contest there. DS9 would get whipped like a rented mule -- no other way about it.

Technobabble doesn't have to involve a magical MaGuffin thatallows their weapons to suddenly be on par with a Star Destroyer. As I said, Kirk never relied on this to overcome far superior enemies.
I didn't say on par, I said be able to stand a chance :p
Say, whereas before an ISD could kill the Enterprise in two or three shots, now it takes, oh, twenty, maybe a hundred (two volleys ).
Any Star Trek universe ship wouldn't stand a chance against an ISD in one on one combat. Maybe a large fleet against an ISD, but then again ISD can always jump into hyperspace if things go down the shitter. I like the idea of the Remnant vs the Federation.
