Utah to Track Porn Found at Crime Scenes

LOGAN, Utah - A sheriff's department in northern Utah is requiring deputies to begin documenting pornography found at crime scenes and during arrests.

Lt. Matt Bilodeau, spokesman for the Cache County Sheriff's Department, said that although no connection between legal porn viewing and criminal behavior has ever been proven, police have seen a steady increase in porn associated with crimes.

He likened the new tracking system to the approach police use with gang members.

"(Gangs) have certain clothes they wear, markings on their houses, tattoos," Bilodeau said. "Like gangs, people who use pornography have associated traits, and we'll define them so we can link them to crimes and pornography."

Dani Eyer, head of American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites) of Utah, compared the program to scouring a suspect's bookshelf and trying to create a criminal profile from the things that person reads.

"It's one thing to collect evidence to crimes, but it's another thing to link thought and association to crime," she said.

Then again, it IS Utah.

Gaaah! Don't these people understand the difference between causation and correlation? Gang members have gang markings because they are in gangs. People don't view (legal) porn because of any criminal attributes!

These retards are hoping to collect statistics showing that most criminals have porn. Of course, they won't search non-criminals' houses for porn, so they will never have a way of comparing the criminal incidence of porn usage to the non-criminal incident of porn usage, but that's OK; they'll just assume it's really low for non-criminals

There was actually a study were a random sample of people were seperated in three groups.
IIRC:
one group got shown movies about the nature, one got shown hardcore porn for 2 hours per session, one got shown 4 hours of hardcore porn. After every session they had to fill out questionaries.
OVer the course of the 3 month the experiment did run, the opinions of the people being shown the porn movies changed.
Overrall the group found sexual violence more acceptable.

So? People get used to things if they keep watching them; thanks for the newsflash, genius. The same is true of conventional movies and violence. What do you think this proves?

Heh, I can just imagine.. after they're done collecting enough samples they raid the local university on tips of major porn traffic believing a nest of criminals lives in the dorm.

Probably because it's no where near as bad as you think it is and you've never lived here before. I've lived here all my life and Utah is a nice place to live. Doesn't mean it's perfect either and it does have its problems but it is no where near as bad as some seem to think it is. Damn some people treat it like it is a prison state held hostage by the mormon church.

I saw a BBC school documentary one morning when I was bored (really) and this programme was looking at Utah and places like Death Valley in California and I have to wonder, did they just colonise and then continue to live there just to prove they could or is there something in the (limited) water supply?

I meant I've lived the majority of my life in Utah. I've also lived in Texas. Though I have noticed that most people who move from another state to Utah can't stand it. I feel they are just home sick.
