FarScape: The Peacekeeper Wars Reaction Thread *SPOILERS*
Well, that was cool.
Did anyone else feel like the rug had been pulled out from under them when Lo'La exploded?
And how awesome was that opening war sequence between the PK command carriers and the Scarran dreadnoughts?
I had more thoughts to post, but the disappeared as soon as I created the thread...I'll post when I remember.
Anyway, what did everyone else think?

Excellent would be an understatement......I nearly shit when they blew up Lo'La.....then to have Jo'thee of all people save their asses was priceless...
The opening sequence with the Command Carriers and Warfighters(the flying frag cannons) ambushing the Scarran warships was awesome...add in Baraca showing some serious balls leading a close in fighter strike on another dreadnought......just fantastic.
Can't wait for part two tommorow.

For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be;
Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails,
Pilots of the purple twilight dropping down with costly bales;
Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain'd a ghastly dew
From the nations' airy navies grappling in the central blue;

Those are Pantak-class Vigilantes, referred to by Crais in "Premiere" as "Battle Fighters." They're by no means fighters, though, being about 500-750 meters long or so. Aeryn's mom had one under her command as part of the retrieveal squad in Season 3.Sokar wrote:The opening sequence with the Command Carriers and Warfighters(the flying frag cannons) ambushing the Scarran warships was awesome...add in Baraca showing some serious balls leading a close in fighter strike on another dreadnought......just fantastic.

AHH!! Thanks McC, I was just going off memory, Warfighter sounded right somehow....it was very cool eiether way.McC wrote: Those are Pantak-class Vigilantes, referred to by Crais in "Premiere" as "Battle Fighters." I thought it had as well, they never explain that, it could just be makeup(that the character is wearing) the or a result of her 'interaction' with Scorpious. Remeber Sikozu is not actually a Kalish, but a bioloid construct that had Kalish features, she may be able to alter her appearance to better blend in.neoolong wrote:First, eeeew.
Second, how does that explain why she looks physically different? I mean, I'm pretty sure her skin color has changed.
Also, the Crichton moments were funny. Like trying to respect the temple, and then whistling. And then shooting his gun off.

One thing that bugged me is they reused a couple of actors who had already played relatively prominent roles in past episodes. The leader of the face-come-apart people who chrystalized John and Aeryn also played the Sebacian nurse who was working for the Scarans when they had captured Aeryn, and the Peacekeeper's supreme commander was also the leader of the pirates who controlled the Flax in 'Liers, Guns, and Money.'
And yes, I know Brouder's wife (currently Scaran War Minister Akna) has played several roles, but she's always in heavy makeup.
But damn awesome in any case. We finally get to se some fleet battles, yay!

Why are the Peacekeepers called peacekeepers anyway? I always assumed it had been that their organisation was originally set up much like a UNish force of today, and it had just said "Fuck off, we're in charge now."

Yes. I haven't seen it. What with being an Englisher.
I do recall Aeryn saying that the current and recent generations of Peacekeepers had betrayed the ideals the organisation was founded with though...

Overall, it was really fucking cool. In the best Farscape tradition, the crew goes from being fucked, to being buttffucked sans lubricant.
But:
Did it seem to anyone else that Gigi Edgley was playing Chiana a little different? Especially her first appearance onscreen?
The Scarran emperor's flagship bugged me, it looked like it belonged to an entirely different civilisation compared to other Scarran ships.
The Rigel CG animation underwater in the opening sequence was crude and unrealistic. There's no way he could move that fast without bigger appendages.
Chiana surviving in open space by D'Argo giving her mouth-to-mouth was painfully dumb.
But those are pretty minor criticisms, really. I'm all kinds of hopped for Pt.II

Life is all the eternity you get, use it wisely.
Presumably this was the rear-most Vigilante in the fleet. That's what it always seemed to me.NecronLord wrote:One of which was also reffered to as "The rear battle fighter" for some reason, by Crais...
Basically, that's not far off. The Eidolons, who were discovered in early season four on Arnessk, the world that Jool stayed on to bring them up to speed, are the original founders of the Peacekeepers. They went to Earth, took humans, accelerated their evolution ( ), and then bred them as keepers of the peace (as you find out in the mini, Eidolons are peacemakers, so they created Sebaceans as peacekeepers). When the Eidolons disappeared due to the superweapon being used on Arnessk, the Peacekeepers held true to their mandate the only way they knew how: by force.Why are the Peacekeepers called peacekeepers anyway? I always assumed it had been that their organisation was originally set up much like a UNish force of today, and it had just said "Fuck off, we're in charge now."
Eh, a lot of the secondary characters were a bit different. Chiana, Jool, Sikozu, Pilot. I figure it makes sense given what's happened: Jool's been on Arnessk as the only non-Eidolon for the past year-plus. Chiana has new eyes and has been desperately trying to reincorporate her friends for the past two months. Sikozu has been with Scorpius for the past two months. Pilot...well, Pilot I can't explainFrank Hipper wrote:Did it seem to anyone else that Gigi Edgley was playing Chiana a little different? Especially her first appearance onscreen?
The overall structure actually matches that of the rest of the Scarran ships quite closely (see the diagram scene). The only difference is how sleek it looks. They went the route that ILM did not when designing Executor -- instead of making it the same size as the other ships, but much faster, they made Executor huge. Staleek's ship is smaller and faster than the Dreadnoughts, but it still seemed Scarran-enough to me.The Scarran emperor's flagship bugged me, it looked like it belonged to an entirely different civilisation compared to other Scarran ships.
You think so? I thought the Rygel CG was much better than in the series. It was still obviously CG, but the overall quality of it was much better than in the series, I think.The Rigel CG animation underwater in the opening sequence was crude and unrealistic. There's no way he could move that fast without bigger appendages.
How about their hair moving around as if blown by wind? My girlfriend pointed that one out.Chiana surviving in open space by D'Argo giving her mouth-to-mouth was painfully dumb.

Well, Rigel is meant to be from a swamp...
For all we know he can propell himself underwater by using that magnificent farting capacity as a squid style jet...

It was great, simply great. I don't care about the Rigel swimming... it's sci-fi, it doesn't have to be wholly realistic. Chiana's new eyes are cool. All the Harvey scenes were pure gold. I'm not sure what I can say about it, except that I have a feeling that The Peacekeeper Wars is going to end on a cliffhanger too...

That just proves that puppets > CGI.Frank Hipper wrote:The Rigel CG animation underwater in the opening sequence was crude and unrealistic. There's no way he could move that fast without bigger appendages.
"I vould prefer that you call me Einstein."Anyone else like the F(Harvey's Head)k Off scene?
"Uh-uh, invisible friends that only I talk to get called Harvey!"
That was hilarious. Then the scene with the two of them dressed up like crash-test dummies was even funnier.
And that opening sequence...damn, it was just insane. Watching the PKs rise out of the rings like ghosts from the grave to ambush the Scarrens was fucking awesome.
Who cares, she looked hot.Was Sikozu's new look explained in the last season?

Yeah, from what I've heard, it really isn't a replacement for a fifth season, but just something to serve as closure for the fourth season's cliffhanger.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Basically. Kemper has more or less said that it's meant to provide closure, but not to totally tie everything off, so as to leave from for additional expansion at a later time if that becomes an option.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Yeah, from what I've heard, it really isn't a replacement for a fifth season, but just something to serve as closure for the fourth season's cliffhanger.
