Probably because Prime series is made in Texas while the side scrolling ones are product of Japan IIRC.

Prime, awsome shooter, beautiful scenery, varried bosse(yeah, find the weakness, exploit is ok, but used to much, theres nothing quite like a classic just-survive-long-enough-to-blast-the-fuck-out-of-it bout, ofcourse Ridley reverted to weakness/exploit after a while). Ofcourse I thought it was a poor Metroid. I didn't like having 4 times of beams instead of a constantly upgrading one with some incompatability(IIRC plasma and spacer don't get along in Super Metroid) that are in the sidescrollers, nor did I like the charge missile attacks. The visors were a nice touch though and the controls were done well.

I'll admit I haven't played HALO much, because it never really caught my interest enough to do so.

Damn, this has the potential to be one kick ass thread that could possibly last a few months since it will come up again when Halo 2 hits, then again when Echoes hits. If you can't figure out what your trying to say then shut up.
This thread has no potential, and never did. On every metroid prime boards there's atleast 2 of these topics, and on metroid prime echoes boards, there's hundreds of them. this discussion is repedative, and shouldnt even be allowed.
Last I checked, you weren't on the moderating staff. This isn't the Metroid boards, and I'd venture to guess that the vast majority of us do not post at any such boards, so what those other boards do doesn't concern us.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Keep it on topic, boys. If you want to rip into the Metroid series, Halo, or Metroid Prime (face it, they're different games entirely), go nuts. That's what the forum is for.

And I lump the classic Metroid series in with Castlevania series, due to the fact that they're basically the same shit, down to the identical mapping systems and control scheme. I got a GBA specifically so I could bathe in the nostalgia of classic side-scrolling adventure treasure hunting.

Prime was okay as a game (and since I'm doing comparaisons, all the 3D castlevania games), but I'm an old fashioned sort of fellow and I like the classic feel of Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night, that sort of thing, and Prime wasn't able to live up to the hype my brain had laid down.

Halo is a completely different organism - great when you have an X-Box. Wonderful, even. But when you own a good gaming PC you can stare at Halo console gamers and laugh and laugh and laugh. Offerings like Serious Sam, Battlefield, Half-Life and UT make Halo bleed.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

First, let me point out that I have a Gamecube and an X-Box, and I have played both of these games. Now, to continue:

Halo creates a semi-plausible universe. There are enemies worthy of a decent novel (in fact, several have been written, some better than others), none of that cheesy "end-level boss" cliche, realistic allied human behaviour, long-term goals, a backstory, etc.

Metroid Prime, on the other hand, is just a game. Maybe it's a good example of the puzzle-jumper genre; I don't know because I've never been a big fan of that genre. But frankly, I find the exercise of solving room puzzles to be tedious and annoying. There is nothing plausible about the universe of Metroid prime; its plot is a mere contrivance to get you from one puzzle/boss to the next, you have no allies, no emotional connection to anything in the story, nothing. It's as cold, dead, and emotionless as an actual puzzle.
