Is the right wing media accomplice to the Republican party?

Post by Bug-Eyed Earl »

I read an article that cnn published around the time of the Clinton impeachment hearings, detailing how Newt Gingrich was in the midst of a messy divorce battle where he left his wife for his much younger mistress!

and I can't help but think that the conservative media outlets would help Nixon get off the hook (at least in the mind of the public).

Given the current state, would Nixon be forced ot resign today?

How do you mean accomplice? I don't think there's any doubt the Right leaning media fights tooth and nail to help the spin machine.

I don't mean that Hannity and Rush would be holding the flashlights at Watergate; just that they would fight tooth and nail against the allegations against Nixon if this happened today on their shows and turn public opinions in favor of the president.

I have little doubt. The media has done a scarily good job at deflecting criticism away from Bush. Who even thinks of the Enron scandal at this point?

There's no way Watergate would be broke as a story these days.

That's ridiculous. Last I checked, the Washington Post wasn't part of the Rove-o-matic Spin Machine.

Some distinction should be drawn between right-wing commentators like O'Rilley, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al, and organizations like the actual news division of Fox News. Does Fox News lean right? Certainly. Does that mean the reporters and editors there are going to not break a story that could make their entire careers because Karl Rove doesn't like it?

When Sean Hannity regurgitates what he heard in the spin room, he's basically doing his job--and remember, his audience WANTS to hear what he's saying. Right wing talk radio is all about preaching to the converted--or to liberals who like to listen just to get angry (the Howard Stern effect). If one of the babe-o-riffic Fox News reporters sits on a story because it's damaging to the president, she's doing the opposite of her job and jeopardizing her career.

Not her career at Fox News, she isn't.
