The Fall of Journalism

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

I loved the reporting of Croncite, of Edward Murrow, etc.

Right now, with the video giving misleading information (Tet, Rodney King, etc), so when did it become spin doctoring, sex sells, and get the video out before anyone else with little or no verification.

So when did Journalism die...

When they figured out how much money they can make. When they became celeberties instead of reporters. When they started hanging out/ dating/ marring/ parting with the people they were suppost to watch.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

There's a very interesting, semi-humorous article on this on Pointless Waste of Time: http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/civilwar.html

I'd say it's a result of journalism turning into a contest to see who can get the most followers, even if integrity has to be sacrificed.

I see by Journalism you mean TV Journalism. Because the muckrackers and out right scumbags have always been a staple of journalism. "You provide the pictures, I will provide the war" anyone?

TV journalism went downhill like all such things do, when they're forced to put popularity before integrity. With things like CNN and other cable news, good news simply wasn't enough and so it became sound bytes and premature scoops.
