I saw this on CNN this morning. It looked like to me that the band was not even playing at all even though the music was going along with the lyrics and all. I don't think she was really performing "live" at all. This is what happens when you lip sing....

The Vocals track looked like it came in early, or in the wrong place... then just cut out. Technical snafu, whatever... made even funnier by Ashlee's quote in the Teenie Magazine 'Lucky', where she stated:

In short, she tried to lipsynch to the wrong song. Someone put on the wrong vocal track and I guess she didn't know the words.

Aparently that video clip we got to see is altered from what really happened. Seems the band was actualy playing and they tried covering for her mistake, then at the end of the show she blames her band.

when they showed this on CNN they showed her first song on SNL which was performed ok by the looks. The what we see in the clips is the second performance and they started the song and it was the same as the first, and she was supposed to "sing" a different one for her second song. The band playing the wrong song would not have been so bad(it sounded like they were playing a different song than the one on the audio track being played then changed songs to match) in starting off if there was no vocal track with it from the first song she "sang" earlier(it is important to note she was not doing the singing when they flubbed and it was a recording). She did try to play it off and dance around a little before slinking offstage. Later she blames her band members and says sorry, but it is clearly obvious if there was a mistake it was backstage with the sound mixer using the wrong track off her album.

A good many pop artists, when they perform on stage these days, will lip sing. A friend of mine who is a performer says that many of the big timers do lots of lip singing on stage. That aside, I never did like her music, its just horrible and bad.

Funny, guess the only way that she could follow in her limited talented sister is by lip-syncing due to the fact that she has no talent of her own at all. At least her sister doesn't (does she?) lip-syncs.

Is it really faking it if you're singing to something you previously recorded yourself? And yeah, she got off-track because she wasn't ready for the vocal cues or coreography that went with that particular song. I thought she blamed her manager, not her band.

Yes. The SNL audience paid for a live performance not pre-recorded tracks from her CD which they can listen to at home. Recall the Milli-Vanilli lip-synch scandal from the Grammy's almost 15 years ago.
