It's Alive! (Pt. 2)

Post by Dahak »

Sorry, had to rip it off :)

On Friday, I will finally have all my components handy to breath life to my new machine...
AMD 64 3400+
200GB SATA (+80GB IDE from my old one)
ATi X800XT
1GB RAM
Dual Layer DVD-RW
Asus K8V mainboard
+ some small fry.

Given my PII 450 MHz, it is quite the upgrade :)

And it was a bitch to get a X800XT. They're harder to find than the holy grail...

Bought it at the Arlt. (Their one and only one currently present :) ), and it was only ~100€ less than a cheaper X800Pro...

Only flaw is the mobo/chip...shoulda gotten the A8V and gone 939-pin. Both more expandable, and faster for a given chip.

939 chips and mobos are still more expensive, and it is quite likely that by the time I buy the next processor, they've changed their sockets yet again... :)

No, 939 is here to stay even through dual core chips next year (which is odd I have to admit, but true). Also, a 3000+ A64 isn't priced much higher then a 3200+ Barton and it is MUCH faster.

I'm talking about a much longer time frame here :)
My current computer is ~7 years old. And the momentum to buy a completely new one builds slowly with me... :)

Even without the expandability factor, the 939 is flat-out faster, for the same chip.
