Anti-Kerry demonstrator pulls gun.

Post by Glocksman »

Story
VERO BEACH, Fla. - An anti-John Kerry (news - web sites) demonstrator was charged with felony aggravated assault with a gun for allegedly pointing a weapon at the head of a Kerry supporter.

Michael Garone, 52, was released from jail Tuesday on his on recognizance.

Garone and others were holding anti-Kerry signs at a street corner Monday in Vero Beach when Trevor Pickering drove up and said "Go Kerry," according to an arrest affidavit.

Pickering argued with the anti-Kerry protesters, and then got out of the car and knocked a sign out of the hands of one of the demonstrators.

"That's when (Garone) walked up to my car and stuck a gun to my head," Pickering said. "I said 'I'm sorry' and 'Please don't kill me,' drove away and called the cops."

Garone denied pointing the gun at anyone.

Vero Beach is about 65 miles north of West Palm Beach
Comments:

If it happened as reported, Garone can deservedly kiss his CCW permit (if he has one) goodbye and plan on spending some time behind bars.

If not, well, it wouldn't be the first time one side makes up shit in order to make the other look bad.

Not enough facts in the story to be certain of guilt, but the cops thought there was enough evidence to arrest him.

We'll see when it goes to trial.

Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

Aside from the gun part, it kinda sounds like what someone did to Katherine Harris down here recently (tried to run her down with his car while she was campaigning on a street corner).

When they showed the picture of his house on TV and I saw the Kerry/Edwards sign on his lawn, I knew what his motivation probably was (expressing yourself...ok...).

Ah, the whackos on boths sides. :)

Is it just me, or are there more wackos (on both sides) for this election than in the other recent ones? Are they just coming out of the woodwork now?

There are no more wackos, it's just that both sides have egged on their respective lunatics far more than ever before.

This is the most divisive election in recent history because George W. Bush, despite his bullshit rhetoric about "compassionate conservatism", is by far the most divisive president in recent memory. Everything he does seems designed to drive wedges between great swathes of society.

The worst thing is that the effects of this nonviolent civil war he's fomented will last long after the election no matter who wins. His political strategy has to been to turn brother against brother, mother against father, neighbour against neighbour in an attempt to "solidify" his power base and ensure continuance of his regime.

Welcome to the 21st century in the Divided States of America.

I think it's a combination of things. Emotions on both sides are running high has they believe that defeat will be the end of America. More attention is also being given to them due to the 2000 election strangness amoung other things.

I see nothing different from the 2000 election. I recall reports of small confrontations, and how Hollywood stars said they'd leave the country if George Bush became President.

I recall the bitter rhetoric from both sides when Clinton was running for President. Veterans turning their backs on him because he didn't serve, etc. Others saying Bush Sr was an ineffective President because he didn't get the job done in Iraq.

Nothing different here. My grandfather used to beat the top of his TV with his cane when Nixon came on the news.

But he's a uniter, not a divider!!1!

Can you imagine what will happen if there's an electoral college tie, and the house chooses Bush?
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
