This one was grabbed from the end credits of Conan the Barbarian and is a variation on the symbol for Thulsa Doom's cult. I've liked it for a long time because it looks a lot like a twisted smiley face.

I think it looks just fine in this picture and this one, but you're right, in many pictures it looks kind of odd.
