Just something I spat out of my brain (a WIP)

So basically, he wants a plane but eventually it became a simple freestyle modelling session, basically. I thought I'd try making a ship. With no particular direction in mind, this is my progress so far:

That comes out rather well. It seems to me that the brigde is that little uplifted section. Is it supposed to be that uplifted, or is it just me?

Nevertheless, lovely work. :)

cool model.
only thing i don´t like is the thingy that comes out of the back, separates and then bends towards the front. it looks too organic compared to the rest.

Now that I look at it that way, I would say I agree too. Maybe attach pulse cannons to all the little potrustions, like that one you mentioned. I have little exerience with this kind of graphic, so I am not sure how hard it is, or whether that would fix the semi-organic feel.

I mean, personally, give the texture of something similar to either Volon, or Whitestar, or even better Shadow vessels. That'd fix the thing, and make it look pretty nifty. What do you think Shinova?

i don´t think you need anyting comming out of the back.
the basic shape you chose is nice and large extensions destroy it.

I dislike those horn things too; I think it would be cooler if you made them more arch-like, possible with ridges that goes all the way down to the front.

A very nice, streamlined design. Reminds me of the Jade Shadow.

It should be a singleseater tho, where most of the front part is the canopy.

Come to think of it, a large canopy combined with an organic-looking camoflague scheme could make it come out pretty good, as if it were some kind of hybrid composite/floral construction.

I like the shape :)
However the back would look better if those "tentacles" were plugged into the main hull and not bent out of it.

Umm Fedrebel, you might want to edit that post - after all if we want to see the image, we can scroll back up to top.

The forward "ring" is unsmoothed; if I wanted to make it look like how it is in the first pic I have to smooth it again, but then it becomes hard to make any future changes to it so I'm skipping out on the smoothing for this one.

Anyway, I took heed of your suggestions and changed the back (still in progress). I plan to connect the rear with those side-hooks somehow.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think I'll do something about the smoothing thing so that every time I make a WIP it'll come out smoothed but I can still work with it without chugging my comp.

no it doesn´t become hard. you simply have to go up in the modifier stack to work on the non mesh smoothed version.

yeah, looks cool now.

to work on the non smoothed model work with a mesh smooth modifier instead of the mesh smooth option provided in the editable poly panel. you can then simply go up in the modifier stack and work on the non smoothed version.

if you want to keep your computer from slowing down while working on another object you can turn off the mesh smooth modifier by clicking on thes little light bulb next to the modifier in the modifier stack.

Almost everything does, B5 had that sort of variety.

It looks interesting to me. Continue working on it, Shin, might turn into something.
