TEHRAN, Iran - To shouts of "Death to America," Iran's parliament unanimously approved the outline of a bill Sunday that would require the government to resume uranium enrichment, legislation likely to deepen an international dispute over Iran's nuclear activities.
I think it's time to warm up the bombers. Since the moderates, who are in favor of reform, seem to have lost all power in Iran's parliament, and the rabid Muslim fundies are growing stronger and more strident day by day, a few surgical strikes to their key facilities, like the Israelis did to Saddam back in the '80s are called for, I think. Maybe this would let the moderates know it's time they put their house in order, before it becomes necessary for us to do it for them.

I like that idea, contract out the hit to the Israelis and claim plausible deniability. In fact if I were GWB, I'd have done that by now, with the strike to hit tomorrow, right before election day. A slightly late "October Surprise".

With this sort of thing is easy to draw out the west through diplomatic battles for years. Even if your being bombed you can do that, see Vietnam.

Why do I have this suspicious feeling that they WILL be bombed while doing this? Don't they understand that "good cop" doesn't have influence it once had with "bad cop"? There is only a limitted window of action.
Ask the Taliban, and Saddam about the merits of brinksmanship with the USA.

The USA is not about to let Iran do a NK of us. The bombing will be only for one night, and then we will have a few years of respite while they rebuild.

Indeed, they really can't put any faith in what Bush might do with regards to them once he is past election. Appeasement of Iran is likely to be part of it.The negotiating build up has just been to score votes, since we can safely act with bombing only right up until the plant is fueled and activated. Though there isn't much longer until them.

I don't see Iran actually doing anything openly hostile right now.. with a massive (although admittedly busy and overstretched) American force on both it's East and West Border. .. it would be suicide.
I beleive Iran is saber rattling in the biggest way, and will simply string out the 'We're building nukes.. no we're not... yes we are.. no we're not' game for as long as possible, especially with Europe, until they get something they want out of it.

I doubt we'll nuke them. A few JDAMS will settle the matter.
A few hundred might be enough, though we'd probably make heavy use of cruise missiles. Its not just enough to bash in the nuclear plant, we also have to flatten a lot of other installations all over the country, and make some efforts to suppress their air defenses.

Don't forget the AMRAAMs. We're going to have to shoot down some planes as well, to completely supress their air defenses.

Bad feeling? That's a happy feeling for me. Those mushroom clouds in "Trinity and Beyond" look rather dated and it's about time we got some new footage for the next atomic bomb movie.
