What I like:
The individual traits your characters have.
-I almost never used about half of the characters in KOTOR, because they had so little to distinguish themselves. It looks like they'll be a lot more individually useful now.
The influence your alignment has on your companions.
-Almost all of your characters stuck to their metaphorical guns in the original.
The improved combat system and abilities.
-Nothing was really wrong with KOTOR's combat system, but I would've been dissapointed if they hadn't worked on it.
What I'm worried about:
The storyline. They better have a damn good explanation about what happened after the original because I put a lot of time and effort into the first game, and I don't want to see it thrown away. I also don't see how they could top the plot twist from the first one, unless Darth Sion turns out to be your father. (Sorry about the clumsy wording of the last paragraph, but I don't want to spoil the original game for anyone who's been living under a rock for the last year) I'm willing, nay eager, to be proven wrong, however.

Bigger, better, stronger, faster. More relevance for blasters, a character as cool as HK-47 and no characters like Mission. Also more Wookiees. You can't have too many Wookiees.

The HELL it is. SW d20 has a lightsaber base damage as 2d8 (with a bonus dice added depending on the level of your Jedi/Sith character), while the base damage of a blaster pistol is 3d6. HEAVY blasters and rifles do a base damage of 3d8. In KOTOR these numbers were drastically reduced EXCEPT for lightsabers, which stayed the same IIRC.Pcm979 wrote:IIRC it's part of the RPG rules they used.

Part of it would've been gameplay balancing. In CRPG's, you always tend to have a lot more combat than you would in the pencil and paper. Making the basic weapons that your average opponents carry around too harmful is just going to make the game that much more difficult.
I do wish they'd at least have an option in the rules for strict d20 stats for the weapons though. It couldn't be that hard to do I would've thought.

As Archaic said, the rules were modified to make the game somewhat more playable. In the SWd20 rules blasters do an impressive amount of damage; also, damage reduction rules don't apply to lightsabers as well, and they can therefore literally cut through virtually everything (vibroblades being no exception).Pcm979 wrote:Okay, I'm wrong. Does anyone know if they're keeping the little battles between the Ebon Hawk and 6 fighters? Those things got annoying. Mostly becuase it was always exactly the same, and the cut scene before and after was too long for something pretty boring.
This is a little off topic: but what happens if you lose that battle? I tried once, but it took so long, I decided to just win it. I imagine you just get the game over screen.

Yeah, the blasters could be stronger. That almost turned me off to Jedi Outcast, actually... the ranged weapons were so useless. The only upside was the fact that lightsaberin' was so fun.
But yeah, I'm tired of the blaster nerfing. I always wanted to be Luke in Empire... running around with a blaster in one hand and a lightsaber in the other. Imagine chopping some fool in twain with one hand, while blasting his fool partner across the room with the other. THAT would be nice.
EDIT: Yeah, why can't Jedi use their force powers to improve blaster accuracy? Use an affect mind to muddle their Jedi opponent's ability to predict where the blaster bolt is going... BANG! Instant dead Jedi. Don't the novels say that most of the effort a Jedi puts into a battle is unseen, anyway?

They're so down with the whole Jedi ethos that they just won't use a weapon that'll allow them to reach out and touch someone. In short, they're anachronistic and set in their ways. Blasters are "clumsy" and "random" after all.

I seem to recall reading some illustrated book, years ago, that had Kyle Katarn mowing through a base-ful of Stormies by using single-shots from a blaster and aiming with the Force. I think that takes so much concentration and control that sabre'n would be so difficult and dangerous.
