I'm starting this early since some of us already voted by mail (and I'm being impatient) .
Plus the site I linked to lists a whole ton of candidates that I wasn't aware
of so maybe people will find some useful information there.

Feel free to mark who you are going to vote for if you want.


If you check out the site you will see that there are a ton of parties with
candidates running for President. I've included the more mainstream ones
in the poll but since there isn't enough room for them all I stopped after the
ones I had heard about. The "Other" option (as usual) is there for people
who voted for someone not in the poll.

Here are most of the other parties and their presidential candidates. If you
want more specific info or to find out who the running mates are follow the
link I provided.

There are also a ton of write-in canidates. If other state ballots are
anything like Arizona's you can really only write in certain approved
candidates. I'm not exactly sure what that means or how you become an
approved write-in candidate but don't end up on the ballot.

Incidently, only the Republican, Democratic and Libertarian parties
appeared on Arizona's early ballots.

I am praying that the election is not close so that we don't have a repeat of 2000 and damnit it if I don't want a fucking closeup on Sean Hannity's face when the results come in and its for Kerry. As far as Sean is concerned, Bush craps solid gold and is empowered with presidential infallibility. I want to see the pain on that bastard's face, I want to lick the tears of anguish off his face as the Kerry presidency is announced.

Not voting until tomorrow, but I've gone so far as to fill out my sample ballot.

President/Vice-President: John F. Kerry/John Edwards (D). A "hold your nose and vote" situation for me. See the recently posted Economist endorsement of Kerry for a good approximation of my reasoning. Along with that, I'm reasonably sure that the next four years are going to be rough, and I'd rather a Democrat be in office to take the blame. If we get Bush '04, you can be sure we'll get Clinton '08.

NJ 1st Congressional District: Rob Andrews (D). Andrews is a Democrat and an incumbent in a safe seat, both of which would normally make me inclined to vote for the other guy (I hate the whole concept of deliberately gerrymandering safe seats and voted against him in 2002 in protest). However, 2004 is Red Imperator's "Spank the GOP" year, and though Andrews is likely to get over 80% of the vote, I'm still not giving Karl Rove and his pals anything that might look like a silver lining. Besides that, Andrews is a moderate social liberal and a fiscal conservative, a combination I'd like to see more of in the Democrats, and I'm going to do my part to reward Andrews for ignoring the loonie left and keeping a restrained hand on the purse strings.

Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders: Robert J. Pacilli (R) and Loran M. Oglesby (R). The Board of Freeholders has been a Democratic monopoly since 2000. One-party monopolies on any level are bad. And, frankly, the people in charge of this county suck. Not that these two non-entities will be much better, but new idiots are at least capable of surprising you once in a while, even if not pleasantly.

And that's it for me. It's a slim ballot this year. Neither senator is up for reelection and the statewide elections fall on odd years here. There are no ballot referendums and my township is between elections. Next year will be much more interesting for Jersey, with no incumbent governor running for relection unless Acting Governor Richard Codey choses to run for a full term.

Which reminds me. Fellow NYers please vote NO on the West Side Stadium Initiative. We don't need that fucking stadium. As if the West side isn't already congested enough we have cops, firemen and teachers without contracts for the last two years and firehouses shutting down across the five boroughs. I'd say there's a FAR better place for money to go then another damn stadium.

I was mostly going that way too except the Republican guy running for congress in my district is such a wackjob that no one in the state is backing him. Most of the Republicans are even trying to distance themselves from him. So, I voted for the incumbant Democrat for congress instead.


Incidently, my congressional district is just insane in how it's shaped. A big chunk of it borders Mexico, several Indian reservations and cuts through a chunk of Tucson and runs up into part of the (Maricopa) county that Phoenix is in. Frickin' Huge Congressional District

District 7 is the second largest Congressional district in Arizona. Out of the 435 Congressional districts, it is the 26th largest in land area, covering 22,872 square miles. This is a land area larger than seven individual states, and larger than Rhode Island, Delaware, Hawai’i, Connecticut and New Jersey combined. The southern boundary of District 7 coincides with 300 miles of the US/Mexico border. Only Texas’ 23rd district has a longer stretch of the southern border.

The urban center of District 7 contains the central, south and west sides of the city of Tucson. The population within the district is predominantly working-class families, from a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. The majority of Tucson’s Hispanic, urban Native American and African-American residents live in the 7th congressional district.

The district extends south to the Mexican border encompassing Nogales, AZ, then west to the Arizona/California border to include all of Yuma County. The district line then follows the Colorado River north to the communities of Parker and Parker Strip within La Paz County, and finally stretches east to Maricopa County’s West Valley.

District 7 is also home to 7 sovereign nations: the Ak-Chin, Cocopah, Colorado River Indian Tribes, Gila River, Pascua Yaqui, Quechan, and Tohono O'odham. District 7 has both the oldest reservation in Arizona as well as the newest.

Think there was some gerrymandering going on when they drew that district?

Base on the demographics I would guess that someone was trying to lump as many potential Democrats together as they possibly could.

We had the scantron ballots as well. Mine said I could use pencil, black or blue pen but I had to fill in the bubble completely.

we have blue sheets where you draw a black line connecting the arrow next to a candidate's name. The blue sheet is then fed into a scanner.

Rhode Island encourages this. Dead people, Teamsters and Mafia members are given passes to vote in each city. If you qualify as all three you get to be Mayor of Providence.

The Texas ballots were surpisingly skimpy this year... normally we have a plethora of third-party candidates to choose from for the presidency, Greenies to Constitution Party to Socialists, Commies and so on, but this year it was the Evil Twins and Badnarik.
