It'll be over on the third. There might be some looneys who file lawsuits, but no one will take them seriously.

Neither one will concede unless it is a clear majority. If its close it will become a waiting game to see how long they can hold on. Many people thought Gore caved too soon and the Republicans will hold on to power no matter what the cost. I pray it is not close.

My inate optimism regarding democracy leads me to believe we will have solid results within a week, however my inate pessimism regarding people in general tell me to prepare to embrace our coming Canadian overlords... Perhaps if we aquiesce in just the right manner, my humble Duchy of Bootswellington will find a new place of power within the hierarchy of the New Era Emperium. Perhaps I can even become an advisor to the Aurora Throne... Hail Canada! Hail Bootswellington!

Three weeks, if it's anything like 2000. The impression I've gotten of how and when absentee ballots and provisional ones are counted means that an accurate result is impossible to know within 24 or even 48 hours of the election. Of course, I could very well be mistaken about how it's done.

If it's a clear majority for one or the other, 48 hours

I blame myself. It's a substitute for italics.

Ok, then I'll blame you too. I knew what they were for, I just think they look funny. I prefer the *asterisk-y* way of emphasizing myself.

No one use the _funny line underscore thingies_ like on ASVS anymore? I prefer asterisks too, to be honest.

You can't use styled text in thread titles, so he's using slashes to represent italicized text. We actually had a huge debate on ASVS about this years ago. Lord Edam was adamant that underscores represented italicized text and asterisks represented bold text.

And those aren't backslashes; they're forward slashes. Backslashes are the things that Windows uses for its paths (c:\, for example). The backslash is also commonly used as an escape character in a number of Unix shells.

Also, morons tend to use the backslash in place of forward slashes everywhere. So if a moron posts a URL, he'll post something like "http:\\bbs.stardestroyer.net". Naturally, the link won't fucking work, but that doesn't stop the moron who can't seem to understand that Windows' idiosyncrasies aren't universal. We've had dumb-asses in the fucking computer science department get this shit wrong, and it's just totally unbelievable. If you can't get a fucking web address right, you have no place in a computer science department anywhere.
