State Gay Marriage Bans
Alright, so it was up to a vote in eleven states, including Georgia, whether or not to "uphold the traditional marriage/define marriage as only between one man and one woman" or as it may be said more directly "make them damned homos second-class citizens."
Without even checking, I know it passed in Georgia (probably with an embarrassingly overwhelming vote), despite my measily vote against it. In fact I'm afraid to look up the numbers to see what a backwards hick state it is that I live in.
How about in the other ten states? I think Utah is one, but I don't know the others.

Ohio had one on the ballot and I voted against it.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I'm with Hamel. Though, I'm fairly certain that such an amendment would be superfluous with our state constitution, though I'm too lazy to doublecheck atm.

Kentucky. I voted against, but it's got a 2/3rds majority thus far.

Oregon, here. I voted against, but it's not looking good. The last poll before the election had the supporters of Prop. 36 at over 20% ahead. I hear that both supporters and opponents of the proposition have focused nearly all of their resources here, as Oregon's the only state where it's up with a snowball's chance in hell of rejecting it. I know that I personally recieved at least a dozen glossy "YOUR children will be taught the gay lifestyle, incest/bestiality/necrophilia will be legalized, and civilization will fall if Proposition 36 fails!" fliers.

Yeah, Utahs got one going. I voted NO but I doubt it will go down in flames.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I'm really rather surprised the yes vote has it by that much.Datana wrote:Oregon, here. I voted against, but it's not looking good. Where in Oregon are you?
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
Benton County, probably the biggest liberal stronghold in the state. The poll numbers I had read were for statewide, which includes the traditionally much more conservative southern and eastern counties. These polls were also taken before the ballots were mailed out two weeks ago, so the situation's probably updated since then, though not by much. I've been trying to find a link to the one I recall, but haven't been able to find it again (the Google search I used before returns completely different results tonight). Sorry about that. I'll post it if I can refind a working link.Howedar wrote:I'm really rather surprised the yes vote has it by that much.

THREE QUARTERS OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS STATE VOTED FOR THAT FUCKING AMENDMENT?!? 3/4?
That means only one fourth of the people in Georgia AREN'T fundie bigots.
I knew it was going to be bad, but I didn't think it'd be much more than 2/3rds. FUCK YOU REDNECKS! Congratulations, dumbasses! We are now as stupid and backwards as backwoods Louisiana. I wish I could borrow Einy's railgun and go blast some stuff.

You know, I can almost--ALMOST--understand why someone might vote to ban gay marriage, even if i don't agree with him. But how is outlawing civil unions motivated by anything other than pure spite?
