How socially repressed are you?

I'm surprisingly non-repressed, considering that I spend all my time here. Some of the writers invited me to play pick-up basketball games with them every Friday, and I have a fiancee, and referee soccer matches in my spare time. I have four or five pretty close friends, and almost everybody at the office likes me (I'm pretty sure they're not just sucking up, either, because I don't control who gets promoted, and some of them don't like Kate very much). So, for a nerd who spends his time here, I consider myself reasonably well off.

Not sure if you meant me or not, but I'm going to answer anyway. And if you meant someone else, well....tough shit.IG-88E wrote:Jeez. What's your job?
I'm a music teacher. This is going to sound totally dorky, but I don't give a damn--the work people I usually go out with are the people I teach marching band with. I have two bands that I teach, one as the percussion instructor and the other as the assistant band director & perc. instructor, and the people I work with are AWESOME. Not a typical job, so they're not your typical co-workers.

I rarely ever use the phone
I have no real-life friends. The only people I spend any significant amount of time with are family.
I rarely ever go anywhere, but I love going outside. West Texas nights this time of year are truly beautiful. Especially when there's a breeze and the clouds have that reddish tinge to them.
And I'm happy with the way I am right now.

Yeah, I meant you. What do you play (if anything, I know some directors who can't play)?Zaia wrote:Not sure if you meant me or not, but I'm going to answer anyway. And if you meant someone else, well....tough shit.IG-88E wrote:Jeez. What's your job?

I can play just about anything (had to take methods classes for my music ed. degree), but if you mean what I play well......IG-88E wrote:Yeah, I meant you. What do you play (if anything, I know some directors who can't play)?
I'm a classical percussionist (mallets, tympani, snare, other random toys)--my favourite perc. instrument is the marimba--gorrrrrgeous sound. It's also my best instrument. I was a piano major for a year and a half, though, and have been playing since i was 8 (am 24 now), so I'm fairly good with that. Played oboe in symphonic band for 9 years, piccolo and flute for 2 years, taught myself how to play the bari sax to be in jazz band (played it for 2 years), learned cello to play in the string orchestra, I picked up the horn because it's got a beautiful sound (but I suck at it--can't slot the pitches to save my life), and I sing (mezzo-soprano). Oh, and I've performed a couple concerts playing the trombone, but those were with easy music. And I occasionally play the mellophone with my marching band kids at football games just for kicks...
[winnie the pooh] *tapping forehead* think, think, think. [/winnie the pooh]
i think that's all...

I go outside almost every day, and it takes serious ilness or a full-scale storm to put me off. However, I usually go out by myself. More control and flexibility, less compromise and waiting around. I'm happy to socialize with co-workers, and I've made one very close friend on the internet (and if you don't think that's possible, then you have NO IDEA what we both went though). I usually spend hours a day on a computer, usually browsing passively, but creativity (online and offline) is a high priority. These days it's always in public PC rooms, so I have an incentive to go out and walk the (safe) streets after midnight.
My philosophy is that it is impossible to be bored if there's no-one there to bore me. The right sort of company, however, can be stimulating as well as a cure for depression (the timing and circumstances have to be right).
Loneliness has little to do with being physically alone. Loneliness is about being misunderstood, and being constantly reminded of your difference.

Outside every day, try to run at least 20 miles a week, have about a half dozen close friends and another 50 less close ones, make a phone call every day or so.

And I reeeeeeeally don't think Ray is the guy for me--I'm not really into tentacle porn, see. Who knows, though--perhaps all the posts I read about him were incorrect. Maybe that's just Ray being 'misunderstood?' Hmmm?
But anyway, thanks for looking out for me, darlin'! *sarcastically batting eyelashes*
