Well there are a lot of us who have been thinking about it for at least two years now here in Yosemite. It's a question of funding and finding work.

This is home. I'll be damned if fucking Jr. runs me out.

In other words, you'll need at least a platoon of UN troopers to drag me kicking and screaming.

My roomate likely will bail to Canada, I may follow, but that depends more on how a few things run in the next year or so.

I thought about running away to live in the forest, but winter would kill me or I'd starve. Also, when you're not running from a bear or desperately scraping up fungus while some news anchor bitch asks "why don't you just come inside?" I'd imagine life in the wilderness would be extremely boring.

So then I thought about walking south. ALL the way south, to the rainforest. Interesting animals, ubiquitous food, agreeable climate... And spiders. Yeah, screw that. Raptor's not for export until he has some qualifications. Or money. See, I'm not an adventurer in real life because I have to eat and you can't just sleep off greivous wounds. :P

I wouldn't blame anyone for doing so, but I'm not going to Canada unless some major bullshit goes down.

Why are some of you thinking of leaving the US, because Bush may enact policies you don't like or because you are unhappy to be in a country that would elect him?

I am just curious because I can't really imagine leaving my country just because the political party changed (or didn't as the case may be in this instance).

Because to me, Bush is the embodiment of all the is bad in politics. Seeing him reelected has shattered my faith in my fellow american. I try to see through other countries' eyes, too. Even the filthy canadians and unwashed frenchmen. I can absolutely see why 80% of the world hates our guts and only celebrates us out of fear. There was another man who worked that way with his people, only he was a tad more brutal. Joseph Stalin. People thought he was a god, even though he was directly responsible for the deaths of millions of them. It really is amazing to watch and listen to a democrat argue with a republican.

Anyway, I really didn't think so many americans supported Bush's "Cowboy" method and were so willing to stick their fingers in their ears and prance around singing "YOU'RE UNAMERICAN!!! UNPATRIOTIC!!!" if you didn't support him 100%.

Personally, I'd rather deal with huntsman spiders crawling from underneath my seat and gnawing my balls off than stay here for four more years.

Well I would certainly hold a dim view of the British public if they elected the Tories next time around but I still wouldn't up and leave my country.

If it turns out my country is inhabited by mindless sheep (something I suspect already  ) then it is probably the same the world over, at least here I can enjoy the fabulous British weather.

I would disagree, both that the Right Honourable Member for Sedgefield is a moron and that the Tories are better than him, however that is rather beside the point of the thread.

I find it amusing WV voted straight Democrat for Governor, and damn near straight Republican for president.

I do NOT want to spend another four years watching Nitram fail to find a good job in this state. The only thing keeping me from leaving is money.

Gah. The temptation is there, so very there...but just out of the realm of practicality at the moment. Money, of course. I have lived in Virginia for 20 years, and I'm 20. I hate it here, with few exceptions...about to move out to an apartment with a friend of mine, so, well, once that lease is about up...who knows?

To anyone who is thinking of emigrating because of the recent election:

Fuck you. Fuck you sideways with a fucking chainsaw, you pussies.

Boo hoo, you didn't get what you wanted, so now you want to run away? Grow up. If you're old enough to vote, you should be old enough to cope with the fact that you don't always get what you want. Deal with it and move on. If every American that lost left after the 2000 election, Bush would be almost entirely unopposed now. Yeah, the system has flaws, and it needs work, but who the fuck is going to fix it if all the people who have a problem with it leave?

Here's a newsflash for you all: South Park was right. Just telling someone to vote doesn't mean they're going to vote for your side. Here's another one, both major political parties are fucked up, and left to their own devices, they will drive their respective areas to the ground.

So go on, keep bitching that you don't want to play anymore. See what that gets you. Then, maybe, once you've finished with your little temper tantrums, you'll join the rest of the world in dealing with life head on instead of running and hiding whenever things don't go your way

Nice rant, Hotfoot. :)

I just have one question for those who want to run away because of Big Bad Bush. WHat are you going to do in four years? Come back? Or are you going to forever give up on your country/home/etc. just because of one little night in November of 2004?

For those that would run away from the US because you're very dissapointed with the election results, wouldn't a more appropriate (and patriotic) response be to get yourself more involved in your state politics?

This is your home too, and if you pack up and emigrate, you're only doing what social conservatives would want you to do. Suppose Michael Moore decided to move to Paris, wouldn't every reactionary in the US nod their head in approval?

Chardok, did you even consider for a second that the results of this election are partly the DNC's fault, for selecting a candidate who had little appeal beyond "not Bush"? This election was Kerry's to lose, and he did a damn fine job of losing it. Sure the fundies would have still gone to Bush, but they don't constitute all his voters (most, but not all), and if the Dems had a better candidate, I'm convinced it would have been enough to tip it in their favor...
